A festival born of passion
In October 2021, a group of jazz-loving friends decided to create the association Envie de Jazz in Figeac, in the Lot department. Their ambition: to launch a jazz festival in the Figeac area, open to all and offering a wide musical palette, from New Orleans jazz to contemporary jazz, including be-bop, jazz-rock and gypsy jazz. Under the presidency of Philippe Atrous, the project quickly took shape and the first edition of Fi'Jazz was born in May 2022.
A festival rooted in the medieval city
Fi'Jazz stands out for its integration into Figeac's remarkable architectural heritage. Concerts take place in emblematic venues in the city and its surroundings:
- Salle François Mitterrand: main stage for Friday and Saturday evening indoor concerts
- Cour de l'Hôtel du Viguier du Roy: medieval setting for late afternoon outdoor concerts
- Château de Saint-Dau and Château de Béduer: heritage sites for opening concerts
- Place de la Halle and Marché couvert: free Sunday morning concerts
- Café La Monnaie: late-night jam sessions in an intimate atmosphere
- Cinéma Charles Boyer and Auditorium Oum Kalsoum: film-concerts and musical conferences
An eclectic and accessible program
True to the philosophy of its founders, Fi'Jazz opts for a "non-elitist jazz, close to the people, in line with its African-American roots", in the words of Philippe Atrous. Each edition mixes renowned headliners and promising young talents. The festival has notably hosted the BBS Orchestra with Stéphane and Lionel Belmondo (2022), Initiative H and Lucienne Renaudin Vary (2023), Anne Paceo (three-time winner of the Victoires de la Musique awards) and the Rémi Panossian Trio (2024), Baptiste Trotignon and André Minvielle (2025), and Antonio Lizana 5tet and Leïla Duclos (2026).
Beyond the concerts
Fi'Jazz is not limited to concerts alone. The festival also offers film-concerts, musical conferences, jazz photography exhibitions, sound readings, and cultural mediation workshops. Open jam sessions for all musicians extend each evening in the city's cafes, creating a permanent festive atmosphere.
A unifying event
Organized during the Ascension weekend, Fi'Jazz benefits from an ideal calendar position that attracts a diverse audience, combining local residents, tourists, and jazz lovers from all over the Occitanie region. The festival relies on a network of local partners — Figeac Tourist Office, the Grand Figeac agglomeration community, restaurateurs, and shopkeepers — to bring the entire territory to life for four days. Street brass bands, free concerts in markets and squares contribute to a festive and friendly atmosphere that makes Fi'Jazz an unmissable event of the Lot spring.
