The Medieval Festival of Hennebont: Morbihan's largest medieval festival

Since 1996, the Medieval Festival of Hennebont immerses the fortified city in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. This historical event, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026, has become over the years one of the largest medieval events in Brittany.

A rich program of shows and entertainment

For two days in July, the town center and the Poterie site are transformed into a true medieval village. The program is dense and varied:

  • Jousting shows with tournaments and sword fights
  • Medieval market bringing together over 130 artisans and exhibitors
  • Costumed parades from the basilica to the Blavet river
  • Medieval music and dances
  • Fire-eaters and jugglers
  • Storytelling from the era
  • Treasure hunt consisting of skill tests, mind games, and historical knowledge
  • Medieval ball at night on Saturday evening

The grand parade

The highlight of each day, the grand parade starts at 11 am from the basilica and crosses the town center to the Blavet. All participants – knights, ladies, musicians, jugglers, and artisans – parade joyfully, marking the opening of the festivities.

Hennebont, a city with rich medieval heritage

The town of Hennebont provides an exceptional natural setting for these festivities, with its 13th-century ramparts, its Porte Broërec, its Notre-Dame-de-Paradis basilica, and the banks of the Blavet river. The authenticity of the setting enhances the immersion in the medieval world and offers visitors a unique historical and festive experience.

A popular event driven by volunteers

The Medieval Festival of Hennebont relies on the commitment of over 200 volunteers and costumed actors who contribute to the entertainment and organization of the event. This participatory and associative dimension makes the festival a moment of social cohesion and local pride.
