Foire aux Livres de Semur-en-Auxois

Thousands of books at the Caveau des Maréchaux

The Foire aux Livres de Semur-en-Auxois is organized every year at the end of August by the local group of Amnesty International France in Semur-en-Auxois, a medieval town in Auxois in Côte-d'Or. The event takes place at the Caveau des Maréchaux, 25 rue de la Liberté, a vaulted space in the heart of the historic town. For three days, thousands of second-hand books are offered for sale, covering all literary genres: novels, essays, comics, children's books, art books, science, history, and many others.

Literature and commitment

Beyond the pleasure of literary discovery, the Foire aux Livres de Semur-en-Auxois carries a solidarity commitment. The profits from the sale are entirely donated to Amnesty International to support its actions for human rights worldwide. Volunteers from the local group are responsible for collecting, sorting, and selling thousands of books gathered throughout the year.

Semur-en-Auxois is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Burgundy, with its ramparts, medieval towers, Notre-Dame collegiate church, and half-timbered houses overlooking the Armançon gorges.
