The Foire aux Melons de Saint-Gilles is an unmissable summer event in the Indre region. Every August, this small village in the department organizes a full day dedicated to melon, the emblematic fruit of Berry summers, combining a gastronomic fair, a large flea market, and popular entertainment. The event is organized by the Comité des Fêtes de Saint-Gilles.

An early morning flea market and a lively fair

The day starts very early: from 6 am, bargain hunters and flea market vendors set up along the Route de Saint-Benoît for the large flea market. From 8 am, the fair takes over with its colorful stalls of sun-ripened melons, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and local Berry products. The friendly and rural atmosphere appeals to both locals and visitors.

Sporting and festive entertainment

In the afternoon, the Triangle USA cycling race livens up the village streets and attracts cycling enthusiasts. This local competition adds a sporting dimension to the day and unites cycling fans from the region. Families enjoy the festive atmosphere, game stalls, and the relaxed vibe of this village festival.

Country meal and dance hall

The country meal, offered at noon and in the evening for €15, is a key moment of conviviality. Diners gather around generous dishes and local specialties in a warm atmosphere. The day concludes in style with a free evening ball with an orchestra and accordion, inviting young and old to dance under the stars. The fair is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and pets are welcome.
