Pouilly-sur-Loire, birthplace of Pouilly-Fumé

Pouilly-sur-Loire, a small town in the Nivernais region nestled on the banks of the royal river, is the birthplace of one of France's greatest white wines: Pouilly-Fumé. This controlled designation of origin wine, made exclusively from the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety on the limestone and flint terroirs of the right bank of the Loire, is recognized worldwide for its complex aromas of gunflint, citrus, and white flowers. The Pouilly vineyards, which extend over approximately 1,300 hectares, also produce the Pouilly-sur-Loire appellation, made from the Chasselas grape variety.

A tradition of August 15th

The Foire aux Vins de Pouilly is an event rooted in the Nivernais summer calendar. Every August 15th, the Assumption Day and a traditional day of celebration in French wine villages, Pouilly-sur-Loire welcomes winemakers and visitors for a grand day of tastings and oenological discoveries. Winemakers from the appellation open their stands to offer tastings of their vintages, explain their winemaking methods, and share their passion for the terroir.

Wines and terroir by the Loire

Beyond wines, the Wine Fair highlights all the local products from the Centre-Loire and Nièvre regions: goat cheeses (Crottin de Chavignol, Sancerre), cured meats, honeys, jams, oils, and other regional specialties. Local producers and artisans complete the offering, presenting a gourmet panorama of the Nivernais gastronomic heritage.

The setting of the fair, by the Loire River, adds a scenic and poetic dimension to the event. Visitors can enjoy walks along the river, visit winemakers' cellars, and discover the wine heritage of this region labeled Vignobles & Découvertes (Vineyards & Discoveries).
