The metal and extreme music festival of the Frozen Records label in Nantes
Frozen Fest is the annual festival of the Nantes-based label and record store Frozen Records, dedicated to extreme and dark music. Organized every year at Le Ferrailleur on the Île de Nantes since 2022, it brings together over two to three days bands from the label's catalog and the European underground scene, covering a wide spectrum from black metal to post-punk, including doom, hardcore, coldwave, and dark folk. A human-sized event, it has established itself as an unmissable gathering for the extreme scene in Western France.
Born in 2022, Frozen Fest is the direct emanation of Frozen Records, an independent record store and label from Nantes founded in 2019 by Eddy, later joined by Paul. Specializing in metal, hard-rock, and hardcore vinyl, the shop located at 18 rue Mercœur in Nantes naturally gave birth to a festival highlighting the artists in its catalog and bands from the European underground scene. Since its creation, Frozen Fest has been held at Le Ferrailleur, an emblematic concert venue located at 21 Quai des Antilles on the Île de Nantes.
The uniqueness of Frozen Fest lies in its eclectic programming within dark and extreme music. Each day of the festival is designed around a musical theme: hardcore and crust one evening, black metal and post-metal the next, dark folk and post-rock to close the weekend, always with an electronic set to conclude each night. It features genres as varied as atmospheric black metal, doom, sludge, coldwave, post-punk, synthetic dark folk, and d-beat.
Over the years, the festival has hosted notable artists such as Plebeian Grandstand, Fange, Afsky, Sorcerer, Aluk Todolo, Mütterlein, Agriculture, Pilori, Mourir, Wyatt E., Aetheria Conscientia, Nature Morte, and Sang Froid.
With an intimate capacity unique to Le Ferrailleur, Frozen Fest cultivates an atmosphere of closeness between the audience and the artists, far from mass festivals. The accessible prices — 3-day passes around €59 to €65 and day passes starting from €18 — and the unique setting of Quai des Antilles along the Loire contribute to making it a loyal gathering for fans of extreme music from Western France and beyond.
Since 2026, Frozen Records also offers the Frozen Frozen Fest, a winter edition in February, complementing the summer event in June. This double programming demonstrates the label's vitality and the festival's anchoring in Nantes' cultural landscape.
