Open-air Rock Metal Festival in Cantal
FuriosFest is an open-air rock and metal festival organized every summer in Saint-Flour, Cantal. Created in 2021 by the Cantal Crossbones association, it has become a must-attend event on the French metal scene, hosting national and international bands each year at the Stade de l'Ander. For its 6th edition in 2026, the festival expands to three days with 18 bands scheduled, including Paradise Lost, Tagada Jones, and Sinsaenum.
At the foot of the Auvergne volcanoes, in the medieval city of Saint-Flour, a festival dares the audacious challenge of making the most powerful riffs of rock and metal resonate. FuriosFest, born in 2021 from the passion of a handful of volunteers united within the Cantal Crossbones association, has become in a few editions a major event on the French metal scene. Its founder and programmer, Christophe Bourry, has transformed what was initially just a single concert into a true open-air festival that attracts extreme music lovers from all over France.
Organizing a metal festival in a town of less than 7,000 inhabitants, perched at 900 meters altitude on a basaltic promontory, is a challenge. Yet, it is precisely this audacity that makes FuriosFest unique. Where other festivals focus on large cities, FuriosFest proves that musical passion knows no geographical boundaries. The Stade de l'Ander, located on Route de Massales, transforms each summer into a playground for heavy sound enthusiasts, with its two open-air stages offering an exceptional natural setting.
The festival benefits from the active support of local authorities—the town of Saint-Flour, the inter-municipal community, and the department of Cantal—who see this event as a great vector of attractiveness for the region. FuriosFest contributes to revitalizing the local economy and renewing the image of a department often perceived as isolated.
Since its first edition in September 2021, a single day with 8 bands at the Vigière gymnasium, FuriosFest has continuously grown. In 2022, the festival moved to open-air at the Stade de l'Ander. In 2023, it expanded to two days. The 2024 edition marks a turning point with major headliners like Mass Hysteria, Les Tambours du Bronx, Sidilarsen, and Orange Goblin. In 2025, the 5th edition hosts Dark Tranquillity, Rise of the Northstar, and No One Is Innocent over two days and two stages.
For 2026, FuriosFest reaches a new milestone by expanding to three days of festival with 18 bands scheduled. The lineup brings together legends of gothic metal like Paradise Lost, figures of French punk metal like Tagada Jones, the supergroup Sinsaenum, the Swedes from Greenleaf, and many other bands ranging from stoner to death metal, including hardcore and punk rock.
Beyond the music, FuriosFest cultivates a convivial spirit characteristic of human-scale festivals. Camping, available from Friday, allows festival-goers to live the full experience. Food trucks offer catering on-site, and credit card payment is accepted everywhere on the grounds. Entry is free for children under 12, and hearing protection is mandatory for minors, demonstrating the attention paid to family reception.
FuriosFest perfectly embodies this new generation of festivals that prove the French metal scene is alive, diverse, and capable of flourishing anywhere, even in the most remote rural areas of France.
