Galop Romain: Antiquity Comes Alive in Eauze
The Galop Romain en Gascogne Festival immerses visitors in the fascinating ancient history of Eauze, the former Elusa, which was the prestigious capital of Novempopulania under the Roman Empire. Since its first edition in 2003, the festival transforms the Panblan leisure park into a vast ancient arena where legionaries, gladiators, and historical artisans mingle.
Breathtaking Shows and Reenactments
The festival offers spectacular human-powered chariot races, precisely choreographed gladiator combats, medieval falconry demonstrations, and a grand evening sound and light show. A recreated Gaulish village and a faithfully reproduced Roman camp allow visitors to discover daily life in antiquity, with scenes from the civilian and military life of the Gallo-Roman era.
Educational Workshops and Interactive Discoveries
Interactive and educational workshops invite visitors of all ages to become apprentice gladiators, chariot drivers, or ancient artisans. Gladiator and chariot piloting schools are open to both children and adults. Ancient games, Gallo-Roman craft demonstrations (pottery, weaving, coin minting), and a gourmet village offering specialties inspired by Roman cuisine complete this cultural and recreational offering.
A Major Family and Educational Event
Galop Romain is considered one of the most emblematic events in the Gers region, brilliantly combining culture, education, humor, and entertainment in a resolutely family-friendly spirit. The festival attracts several thousand visitors each year and contributes to the valorization of the rich archaeological heritage of Eauze and the region.
