Day of Breton culture with gouren, bagadou, and Celtic circles in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo
The Grande Fete Bretonne in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo is a summer event that celebrates Breton traditions through music, dance, and traditional sports. Organized by the Fetes Committee in partnership with local cultural associations, this day highlights Brittany's living heritage in an exceptional seaside setting.
The program of the Grande Fete Bretonne gives pride of place to bagadou — Breton music ensembles featuring bombards, bagpipes, and drums — and to Celtic circles that perform traditional dances in period costumes. Demonstrations of gouren, the ancestral Breton wrestling, complete the sporting aspect, while traditional wooden games liven up the family areas.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with aubades in the different neighborhoods of the town, where bagadou and Celtic circles perform up close to the residents. At 2 p.m., a grand parade runs along the seafront, bringing together all the participating groups. The Triomphe des Sonneurs, the day's highlight, gathers all the musicians at 5:30 p.m. for a moment of intense emotion. The day concludes with a fest-noz/fest-deiz from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., in front of the Salle d'Armor.
The festival takes place in the streets and on the seafront of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, 22380.
