The Ouanne Fair, a village tradition since 1973
The Animation Ouanne Forterre association, successor to the local Foyer Rural, has been running the Ouanne Fair since 1973. Originally known as the Saint-André Fair, it was traditionally held on the weekend before November 30th. Since 1978, it has been moved to the third Sunday of September to take advantage of better weather.
Agricultural machinery and farm animals
The fair's agricultural roots are showcased through displays of cattle, goats, and other farm animals. Vintage tractors, old equipment, and historical artifacts are exhibited in the school parking lot. Modern tractors are set up at Place Goutte Toquet, alongside market stalls, a refreshment bar, and food vendors.
Arts and crafts, horses, and a float parade
The church hosts an arts and crafts exhibition featuring paintings, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, and other handmade creations. Equestrian shows are performed for the public on the village green. The float parade, often humorous in nature, is prepared by the association's volunteers and serves as the highlight of the day.
One of the last fairs of its kind in the region
This is how the association describes its event. The village of Ouanne is located in the Forterre, a region of hedgerows and livestock farming that acts as a transition between the wooded Puisaye and the plains of the Yonne.
