The guitar and lutherie festival in Colmar
Guitarmaniaks is the festival dedicated to the guitar in all its forms, organized in Colmar by the eponymous association founded in 2001. The Guitar Show brings together about twenty luthiers and exhibitors at the Koïfhus, the medieval old customs house of Colmar, while exceptional concerts are held at the Grillen. Masterclasses, open stages for regional musicians, and conferences on lutherie complete a program that has featured the biggest names in guitar: Biréli Lagrène, Sylvain Luc, Pierre Bensusan, Jacques Stotzem, and many others.
The Guitarmaniaks adventure began in 2001, at the initiative of a group of guitar-loving friends gathered around Jean-Marc Clergue. Their ambition: to promote the guitar in all its forms, without distinction of genre or musical style. Over the years, the Colmar-based association has developed a rich program of themed concerts, masterclasses, and above all the Colmar Guitar Show, which has become the essential meeting place for guitarists and lutherie enthusiasts in Alsace.
The heart of the event beats at the Koïfhus, the medieval old customs house of Colmar, a listed historic monument. In this exceptional setting, about twenty exhibitors — luthiers, string and accessory manufacturers, specialized shops — present their creations and instruments. Visitors can try exceptional guitars, discover artisanal lutherie techniques during specialized conferences, and interact directly with the craftsmen. French lutherie, recognized for its excellence, holds a central place in this show.
The musical part of Guitarmaniaks unfolds at the Grillen, Colmar's contemporary music venue. Two to three exceptional concerts feature internationally renowned guitarists in various styles: gypsy jazz, fingerpicking, blues, rock, classical, flamenco. Over the years, the festival has hosted guitar legends such as Biréli Lagrène, Sylvain Luc, Pierre Bensusan, Jacques Stotzem, Mariano Martin, Michel Gentils, Bobby Dirninger, John Renbourn, and David Reinhardt.
True to its spirit of sharing, Guitarmaniaks offers an open stage where regional musicians, both amateur and semi-professional, can perform for the show's audience. This initiative fosters encounters between enthusiasts and contributes to the vitality of the Alsatian guitar scene. Masterclasses led by guest artists also allow guitarists of all levels to perfect their technique and benefit from expert advice.
Whether you are an experienced guitarist, a curious beginner, or simply an admirer of fine music, Guitarmaniaks offers an accessible and varied program. The show is open to families, and the warm atmosphere of the event encourages exchanges between generations of musicians. Throughout the year, the association continues its mission to promote the guitar through themed concerts organized in and around Colmar.
