Every year, from the end of November, Haguenau adorns itself in its finest attire to celebrate Christmas. The town, nestled at the foot of the largest undivided forest in France, unfolds a warm and authentic Christmas Market that attracts tens of thousands of visitors. The half-timbered streets light up, the scents of bredele, mulled wine, and gingerbread fill the air, and the magic of Christmas settles in for over a month.
Sixty chalets in the historic squares
Around sixty wooden chalets line the emblematic squares of the town: Place de la République, Place Joseph Thierry, and Place de Neubourg. Artisans, local producers, and merchants present a carefully selected range of products: handmade Christmas decorations, candles, ceramics, wooden toys, Alsatian textiles, as well as the essential bredele, mannele, chocolates, and foie gras.
Magical entertainment for the whole family
The Christmas in Haguenau program is particularly rich in entertainment:
- The 1900 Carousel: a magnificent vintage carousel installed on the Place de la République, bringing joy to children.
- Saint Nicholas: the solemn arrival of the patron saint of children, welcomed with great fanfare on the Place Joseph Thierry.
- The Noëlies: a Christmas concert in the splendid Saint-Georges church, a jewel of Alsatian Gothic architecture.
- Nativity Scene Exhibitions: presented in several locations in the city, they showcase the richness of this tradition.
- Light Parade: a grand closing procession that illuminates the streets of the city center.
A medieval heritage enhanced by the magic of Christmas
Haguenau, a former imperial residence of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, provides an exceptional setting for its Christmas festivities. The illumination of the Place de Neubourg, inaugurated with great fanfare on the opening night, transforms the historic center into a true enchanted village. The medieval alleys, half-timbered houses, and religious buildings create a unique atmosphere, blending Alsatian tradition and Christmas magic.

The Haguenau Christmas Market returns from November 20th to December 30th, 2026. Around sixty wooden chalets will be set up in the heart of the medieval city, accompanied by the 1900 carousel, the arrival of Saint-Nicolas, Noëlies concerts, and the traditional closing light parade.
2026 Edition — November 20th to December 30th
The Haguenau Christmas Market returns to the city's historic squares for the 2026 edition. The opening night takes place on Thursday, November 20th (4 PM - 8 PM), with strolls and musical entertainment starting at 5 PM, followed by the illumination of Place de Neubourg at 6 PM. The chalets then welcome the public until December 30th, spread across six locations in the city center: Place d'Armes, Place Joseph Thierry, Place de la République, Cours de la Décapole, Place de Neubourg, and Grand Rue around Saint-Georges Church.
Around sixty chalets from artisans, local creators, and producers offer festive decorations, gift ideas, and Alsatian delicacies (bredele, mannele, mulled wine, dampfnudel). Haguenau, nicknamed the «cradle of nativity scenes» in Alsace, features numerous nativity scene exhibitions throughout the entire period.

Practical information — Christmas in Haguenau
Dates and times
From November 21 to December 30 (except December 25). Mondays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays to Thursdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Special hours on December 24 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) and December 26 (2 p.m.-8 p.m.).
Access
By train
Haguenau station, served by TER from Strasbourg (25 min). The market is a 10-minute walk from the station.
By car
From Strasbourg, take the A4 then the D1063 (30 min). Free parking in the city center, notably at Place du Marché aux Bestiaux and the Décapole parking lot.
Prices
Access to the Christmas Market is completely free. The carousel and some activities are subject to a fee.
