Great festival of Gascon and Bigourdan culture in Tarbes
Created in 1978, the Hesteyade de Bigorre is the unmissable event for Gascon and Bigourdan culture. Driven by the group Les Plantagulhes and initiated by Denis Pécassou, this festival brings together hundreds of singers, storytellers, and artists from the 160 communes of Bigorre each year for three days to celebrate the Gascon language, songs, stories, and traditional dances. The event, which is itinerant, is mainly held in Ibos.
Since 1978, the Hesteyade de Bigorre has been the major event for Gascon culture in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Initiated by Denis Pécassou, a fervent defender of Bigourdan songs, and driven by the group Les Plantagulhes, this festival celebrates the language, songs, stories, and traditional dances of Bigorre for three days.
Each edition offers a rich program:
The Hesteyade brings together hundreds of choristers, storytellers, and artists from the 160 communes of the region, all gathered under a marquee to sing, tell stories, and keep the language of Bigorre alive. Supported by the Departmental Council of Hautes-Pyrénées, it constitutes a true act of transmission of Gascon intangible heritage.
The 47th Hesteyade de Bigorre will be held in the spring of 2026 for another weekend of Gascon culture with songs, stories, dances, and Bigourdan traditions.
