About Issoire Festival

Created in 1987 on the initiative of Fernand Neves and members of Folklore Issoirien, the International Festival of Dances and World Music of Issoire (FIDEMM) is a free festival that explores each year the diversity of forms and expressions of folk music and dances from around the world. Member of the CIOFF France network (International Council of Folklore and Traditional Arts Festivals), a partner of UNESCO, this festival hosts groups from all over the world for a week in July, animating parades in the city center, concerts, open-air shows, dance workshops, and convivial evenings on the Place de la Montagne in Issoire.

International Festival of Dances and World Music of Issoire: Cultural Diversity Celebrated

Since 1987, the International Festival of Dances and World Music of Issoire — initially named "International Folklore Festival of Issoire" (FIFI), then FIDEMM — has been the unmissable event for traditional arts and international folklore in the Puy-de-Dôme. Created on the initiative of Fernand Neves and members of Folklore Issoirien, this free festival aims to explore the richness and diversity of world music and dances.

A Festival Recognized by CIOFF and UNESCO

FIDEMM is a member of the CIOFF France network (International Council of Folklore and Traditional Arts Festivals), itself an official partner of UNESCO. This international recognition attests to the artistic quality of the festival and its commitment to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of global intangible cultural heritage.

A Week of Shows and Encounters

For a week, in July, dance and music groups from all continents take over the city of Issoire to offer:

  • Parades in the city center: Troupes in traditional costumes parade through the streets of Issoire in colorful processions.
  • Concerts and open-air shows: On the Place de la Montagne and in other locations in the city, traditional dance and music performances delight spectators.
  • Dance workshops: At Square André Roux, festival-goers can learn world dances with the invited artists.
  • Convivial evenings: Shared aperitifs, festive meals, and musical evenings punctuate the week.
  • Market entertainment: Groups entertain the markets of Issoire and neighboring towns like Brassac-les-Mines.

A Popular and Free Festival

True to its mission of cultural accessibility, FIDEMM is completely free. All shows, parades, concerts, and workshops are free to access, allowing all audiences to discover the richness of world cultures. With over 35 editions to its name, the festival has become a major summer event in Issoire and a vector of international influence for the city.
