The traveling hip-hop culture festival of the Jokebox collective in Poitiers
Jokeboxon is the hip-hop culture festival of the Jokebox collective, based in Poitiers since 2015. A traveling and multidisciplinary event, it takes over different venues in the city each year to celebrate all facets of the hip-hop movement: rap concerts, beatbox meetups, dance battles, DJing sessions, graffiti murals, and open stages. Driven by a team of enthusiasts and a free pricing policy, Jokeboxon champions a vibrant, accessible hip-hop rooted in its territory.
Born in 2015 from the initiative of the Jokebox collective, a Poitiers-based association dedicated to hip-hop culture, Jokeboxon has established itself as a must-attend event for the urban scene in the Vienne region. Founded by enthusiasts united around Chess and Dared, the collective brings together rappers, beatmakers, DJs, beatboxers, dancers, and graffiti artists who share the same spirit of sharing and creation.
Jokeboxon's originality lies in its traveling nature. From one edition to the next, the festival takes over various emblematic venues in Poitiers and its surroundings: Zo Prod, a former gut factory converted into an artistic wasteland by the Boivre river, the Confort Moderne, a benchmark contemporary music venue in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, or Plan B. This mobility allows the festival to reach diverse audiences and constantly renew the experience offered.
Jokeboxon is not limited to rap concerts. Each edition offers a complete program that embraces all disciplines of hip-hop culture: live concerts with local and national artists, beatbox meetups, dance battles, DJing and turntablism sessions, live graffiti mural creations, open stages (open mics), and instrumental sets. This comprehensive approach makes the festival a true laboratory for urban culture.
Throughout its editions, Jokeboxon has hosted artists such as Hippocampe Fou, Hakim Norbert, Newmed, Les Chiennes Hi-fi, Princess Berce, Sancho et Ramirez, Otam, Veusty, Les Aiguilleurs, and DJ Hoptimyst, mixing national headliners with emerging local talents from Poitiers. The festival operates on a free pricing (prix libre) basis, affirming its commitment to making hip-hop culture accessible to everyone, without economic barriers.
More than just a festival, Jokeboxon is a vector of social connection and cultural dynamism for Poitiers and the Vienne region. By uniting artists, volunteers, and audiences around urban culture, the Jokebox collective contributes to the influence of the hip-hop scene in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and provides a valuable showcase for local creators. After four notable editions between 2015 and 2018, the festival continues its mission with new editions that perpetuate the original spirit: sharing, creativity, and collective energy.
