The world's greatest pianists in Lyon
Each year in November, the Journées du Piano transform the Auditorium de Lyon into a temple of the keyboard. For three days, recitals, symphonic concerts, and encounters celebrate the piano in all its forms, in the exceptional acoustics of one of France's finest halls.
Exceptional recitalists
The Journées du Piano program features living legends of the piano. Among the invited artists: Rudolf Buchbinder, Austrian keyboard legend, Grigory Sokolov, considered one of the greatest pianists of his generation and given a highly anticipated carte blanche, Vanessa Wagner, French virtuoso exploring the bridges between Bach and Philip Glass, and Jean-Paul Gasparian, young Franco-Armenian prodigy interpreting Franck and Schumann. Recitals of rare intensity, served by the remarkable acoustics of the Auditorium.
An amateur competition to play on the grand stage
An original feature of the Journées du Piano: an amateur piano competition organized in partnership with Westfield La Part-Dieu. Open to all non-professional pianists, this competition allows the winner to fulfill a dream: play on the Auditorium stage in front of the festival audience. Applications open in the fall, with selections by a jury followed by a public vote, before a final at the shopping center and a recital by the winner on the Saturday of the Journées du Piano.
A weekend for all keyboard lovers
The Journées du Piano are for everyone: passionate music lovers coming to hear the greatest performers, families curious to discover the piano repertoire, and amateur pianists dreaming of performing on stage. The Auditorium de Lyon, with its 2,100 seats and its orchestra of 104 musicians, offers an exceptional setting to experience the magic of the piano.
