Since 2020, the La 5e Saison Festival has brought together residents of the Niort agglomeration around outdoor live performances for nearly a month, between late May and late June. Organized by Niort Agglo (Communauté d'Agglomération du Niortais), this itinerant and free festival offers circus, dance, street theater, music, clown, and puppet shows in about twenty communes of the territory.
The uniqueness of La 5e Saison lies in its territorial dimension. Rather than concentrating shows in a single location, the festival spreads out into the communes of the agglomeration, from village squares to parks, natural spaces, village halls, and nautical bases. Each commune hosts one or more shows, creating an artistic journey that invites spectators to discover their territory from a new angle. Funding is based on a parity model: each commune finances 50% of the shows it hosts, with Niort Agglo providing the other half.
Each edition offers about twenty shows presented by around fifty artists from professional companies. Talent is expressed in the full diversity of street arts and live performance: circus acrobatics, outdoor choreographies, street theater, itinerant concerts, puppet shows, clown performances, contemporary juggling. The program combines public-friendly proposals and more intimate creations, with particular attention to young audiences and families.
Access to all shows is entirely free, upon reservation. Places are limited depending on the venues, and reservation also allows the organization to contact spectators in case of postponement or cancellation due to weather. This accessibility policy makes La 5e Saison a truly unifying event, bringing together audiences of all ages and backgrounds in a spirit of conviviality and sharing.
