The mythical trail of the Savoyard mountain in La Plagne
La 6000D is one of the most emblematic mountain trails in the French Alps, organized every summer in La Plagne, in the heart of Tarentaise in Savoie. Its evocative name refers to the cumulative positive elevation gain of nearly 6,000 meters on the main course, a titanic challenge that attracts trail runners from all over the world. But La 6000D also offers several race formats adapted to all levels - from discovery trail to ultra course - in exceptional alpine landscapes, between glaciers, alpine pastures, high-altitude lakes, and peaks culminating at over 3,000 meters. A major sporting event that makes the resort of La Plagne vibrate every summer.
Over the years, La 6000D has established itself as one of the most demanding and spectacular mountain trails in the Alps. Organized in La Plagne, a world-renowned resort located in Tarentaise, this summer sporting event offers trail runners an exceptional playground: high-altitude trails winding through glaciers, moraines, alpine lakes, and vast pastures, with the Vanoise massif and Mont-Blanc peaks as a backdrop.
The historic 6000D course - which gives the event its name - represents a monumental challenge: approximately 68 kilometers with nearly 6,000 meters of positive elevation gain. This high-mountain effort requires endurance, technical skill, and mental resilience, rewarded by breathtaking panoramas and a unique sense of accomplishment.
Aware that ultra-trail running is not accessible to everyone, the organization of La 6000D has developed a multi-race program over the years, allowing every type of runner to find their satisfaction:
La Plagne offers a natural setting of exceptional richness for trail running. The races cross varied landscapes: spruce forests, flowery alpine pastures, scree slopes, snowfields, panoramic ridges, and glacial valleys. Runners navigate between 1,250 and over 3,000 meters in altitude, facing the demands of high mountains - oxygen scarcity, rapid weather changes, technical terrain - in a preserved natural environment, at the gates of the Vanoise National Park.
Beyond the sporting competition, La 6000D is a festive event that animates the resort of La Plagne for several days. Exhibition village, musical entertainment, food stalls, award ceremonies, and convivial evenings punctuate the weekend, creating a festive atmosphere around sport and the mountains. Companions and spectators can enjoy the resort's many summer activities - hiking, mountain biking, via ferrata, paragliding - while the runners tackle the trails.
La 6000D returns in July 2026 to La Plagne for a new edition of this mythical mountain trail. Several race formats will be offered, from discovery trail to the 68 km and 6,000 m elevation gain ultra course, in the exceptional alpine landscapes of Tarentaise, at the gates of the Vanoise National Park.
