Book and painting fair in the Brenne region
La Plume et la Toile is a book and painting fair organized annually by the association Les Amis du Colombier de Lureuil, in the heart of this village in Brenne, Indre. Created in 2022, this fair brings together about forty amateur authors and painters eager to interact with visitors in a friendly, village atmosphere. The event, held on the church square, is a true village festival showcasing local and regional artists, also featuring a heritage fair highlighting conservation and restoration professions.
La Plume et la Toile was born in 2022 from the initiative of the association Les Amis du Colombier de Lureuil, which wanted to create a cultural event showcasing local artists. The fair brings together about forty authors and amateur painters each year on the church square in Lureuil, in a warm and friendly atmosphere typical of Berry village festivals.
The originality of La Plume et la Toile lies in the intersection of two forms of artistic expression: literature and painting. The authors present cover various genres—novels, poetry, historical accounts, tales, children's literature—while the painters exhibit works of all techniques. This proximity between pen and brush fosters rich exchanges among the artists themselves and with visitors, in a spirit of sharing and discovery.
Since 2025, La Plume et la Toile has been enhanced by a first heritage fair, highlighting professions related to the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of heritage. Artisans, restorers, heritage conservation professionals, and heritage associations present their skills and achievements, adding an extra dimension to this cultural event rooted in the Brenne region.
Lureuil is a village in southern Indre, located in the Regional Natural Park of Brenne, known for its remarkable dovecote, an old Knights of Malta building that gives its name to the organizing association. The rural setting of the church square, lined with old houses and shaded by lime trees, offers an ideal backdrop for this human-scale fair. The event, free and open to all, contributes to the cultural animation of this preserved rural territory and to the influence of artists from the Centre-Val de Loire region.
