A Village Festival Celebrating Books and Painting
La Plume et la Toile was born in 2022 from the initiative of the association Les Amis du Colombier de Lureuil, which wanted to create a cultural event showcasing local artists. The fair brings together about forty authors and amateur painters each year on the church square in Lureuil, in a warm and friendly atmosphere typical of Berry village festivals.
Authors and Painters Meet the Public
The originality of La Plume et la Toile lies in the intersection of two forms of artistic expression: literature and painting. The authors present cover various genres—novels, poetry, historical accounts, tales, children's literature—while the painters exhibit works of all techniques. This proximity between pen and brush fosters rich exchanges among the artists themselves and with visitors, in a spirit of sharing and discovery.
A Heritage Fair as a Complement
Since 2025, La Plume et la Toile has been enhanced by a first heritage fair, highlighting professions related to the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of heritage. Artisans, restorers, heritage conservation professionals, and heritage associations present their skills and achievements, adding an extra dimension to this cultural event rooted in the Brenne region.
Lureuil, a Characterful Village in Brenne
Lureuil is a village in southern Indre, located in the Regional Natural Park of Brenne, known for its remarkable dovecote, an old Knights of Malta building that gives its name to the organizing association. The rural setting of the church square, lined with old houses and shaded by lime trees, offers an ideal backdrop for this human-scale fair. The event, free and open to all, contributes to the cultural animation of this preserved rural territory and to the influence of artists from the Centre-Val de Loire region.
