International festival of contemporary creation in Lille: dance, theater, performance, and hybrid arts
Founded in 2003 in the north of France, Latitudes Contemporaines has established itself as a leading player in contemporary creation in the Hauts-de-France region and beyond. The festival strategically combines an annual festival in June and a production office supporting French and international artists throughout the year.
The festival unfolds over three weeks in June, offering an intense and multidisciplinary program that extends to all artistic fields without form restrictions: performance, dance, theater, music, and hybrid works. Since its creation, the festival has evolved from a one-week format focused on new forms of contemporary dance to an expanded program with parties and exchange periods.
The unique feature of Latitudes Contemporaines lies in its focus on new forms of performing arts in which the body is a primary element. The festival keeps pace with the evolution of artistic forms, programming creations that question, disturb, and renew the spectator's view of living art.
Latitudes Contemporaines aims to be an international, festive, and committed festival. The programming places a particular emphasis on artistic voices from around the world, with regular focuses on specific geographical areas. The festival opens dialogue between artists and audiences, offering encounters, debates, and moments of conviviality.
The festival takes place in numerous cultural venues in the Lille metropolis and beyond: theaters, performance halls, alternative spaces, and heritage sites. The programming sometimes extends to Courtrai (Belgium) and the Château d'Hardelot (Condette), reflecting the cross-border and regional dimension of the project.
The 24th edition of Latitudes Contemporaines will take place from June 4 to 26, 2026, in the Lille metropolitan area. The international, multidisciplinary, festive, and committed program will highlight artistic voices from the Mediterranean basin, with a particular focus on Lebanon, Palestine, and North Africa, as well as artists from Afghanistan, Belgium, Cape Verde, and Serbia. More than three weeks of shows, performances, dances, theater, debates, and parties in about fifteen cultural venues in Lille.
The 24th edition of Latitudes Contemporaines will take place from June 4 to 26, 2026 in cultural venues across the Lille metropolitan area: Opéra de Lille, maison Folie Wazemmes, Gare Saint Sauveur, Le Grand Sud, La rose des vents in Villeneuve d'Ascq, Théâtre de l'Oiseau-Mouche in Roubaix, MUba Eugène Leroy in Tourcoing, La Fileuse in Loos, Couvent des dominicains, Médiathèque Jean Levy, Fives Cail, Théâtre Massenet and other partner venues.
The 2026 edition particularly honors artistic voices from the Mediterranean basin, with a focus on Lebanon, Palestine, and North Africa. The program also welcomes artists from Afghanistan, Belgium, Cape Verde, and Serbia. The visual identity of this 24th edition is designed by Zineb Benassarou.
For over three weeks, the public will discover artistic forms where fiction and documentary, collective memories and living archives intersect. The program highlights intimate narratives that «shift benchmarks and become the breeding ground for revolutions,» blending contemporary dance, theater, hybrid concerts, performances, artistic banquets, and dance parties.
From Ali Chahrour (opening on June 4) to Yinka Esi Graves (closing on June 26), including Marlene Monteiro Freitas and the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon, Boris Charmatz, Israel Galvàn, Adèle Haenel & Caro Geryl (DameChevaliers), and Kubra Khademi, the festival brings together emblematic artists and discoveries around contemporary themes.
