Le Lavoir Électrique: The Rock Adventure of Vouneuil-sous-Biard

In 2011, a handful of music enthusiasts founded the association Rock en Boivre with a simple yet ambitious idea: to create a free, open-air rock festival, accessible to all, in the heart of the Parc de la Boivre in Vouneuil-sous-Biard, a few kilometers from Poitiers. The gamble paid off: from its very first editions, Le Lavoir Électrique established itself as a must-attend event on the rock scene in the Vienne region, attracting over 3,000 festival-goers each year in a warm and electrifying atmosphere.

A Green Setting by the Boivre River

The festival takes place in the Théâtre de Verdure, a natural amphitheater nestled in the municipal park by the Boivre river. This bucolic and shaded setting offers remarkable acoustics and a unique proximity between artists and the audience. Spectators settle on the lawns facing the stage, creating an intimate atmosphere despite the significant attendance. PMR access is provided with a reserved area for people with reduced mobility.

An Eclectic and Generous Rock Lineup

True to its rock DNA, Le Lavoir Électrique offers a varied lineup each year, mixing garage rock, punk rock, alternative rock, heavy rock, and power rock. The programming highlights regional bands while also welcoming groups from all over France. Over the years, the festival has notably hosted Datcha Mandala (Bordeaux heavy rock), Dead Chic (cinematic rock), Darcy (nervous rock), Storm Orchestra (energetic Parisian rock), The Twin Souls (Toulouse power rock), Tip Stevens, and The Gumps (Poitiers garage rock). From four to six bands perform from 5:30 PM to 1 AM, offering a dense and generous evening.

A Free Festival Driven by Passionate Volunteers

Le Lavoir Électrique relies on the commitment of dozens of volunteers and the support of local partners. Admission is free for everyone, in line with the founding philosophy of the Rock en Boivre association. On-site, a festival currency – the "Lavoir" – can be used for purchases at the bar and food stalls: fries, sandwiches, vegetarian dishes, sweet crepes, craft beers, homemade iced tea, and hot drinks. As a member of the Vienne Fest collective, the festival actively contributes to the cultural influence of the region and the democratization of live music in Vienne.
