Les Baldifolies: The amateur music celebration in Mayenne
Born in 2005 from the initiative of five musicians from the Bais Municipal Harmony and their conductor Loïc Renault, the Les Baldifolies festival has become, in just a few editions, a must-attend event in the musical life of Mayenne. The first year, 250 musicians responded. Today, over 1,000 musicians take over the streets of Bais every two years for a grand celebration of music.
Over 35 musical groups
The richness of Les Baldifolies lies in the diversity of the groups present. The festival hosts bandas, municipal harmonies, symphony orchestras, choirs, orchestra classes, street bands, steel bands, and brass bands from Mayenne and neighboring departments. This musical mosaic offers a complete panorama of amateur music practice in the region.
Renowned guest artists
Alongside the amateur groups, the festival invites leading professional artists. The 8th edition notably hosted Ego le Cachalot, Lionel Suarez (accordionist), Airelle Besson (jazz trumpeter), and the group Malted Milk (soul-funk). These guests add an extra dimension to the program and allow amateur musicians to rub shoulders with established artists.
A free and eco-responsible festival
Les Baldifolies is an entirely free event, open to all audiences. The festival is committed to an eco-responsible approach, with particular attention paid to waste management and reducing its environmental impact. From 3:30 PM to 1 AM, the public wanders between the various stages spread throughout the village of Bais.
A unifying biennial event
Organized every two years, the festival is a moment of gathering for musicians and the public of the region. The Harmonie de Bais, with about forty musicians, leads this event with the help of numerous volunteers, in a spirit of conviviality and promotion of musical practice for all.
Les Baldifolies — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Les Baldifolies will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 in Bais (Mayenne), from 3:30 PM to 1:00 AM. This biennial amateur music festival, free and eco-responsible, once again brings together over 1,000 musicians and more than 35 groups in the streets of the town, featuring as guests the group Archimède, a giant choir creation with the Orchestre symphonique de la Haute-Mayenne, and Le Bal des Variétistes to close the evening.

The new edition of Les Baldifolies is confirmed for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 3:30 PM to 1:00 AM, on the grounds near the multi-purpose hall (Route de Normandie) in Bais. True to its spirit, the festival remains entirely free and eco-responsible.
Over 1,000 musicians, over 35 groups
As with each edition, Les Baldifolies brings together over 1,000 musicians spread across more than 35 groups from Mayenne and neighboring departments: bandas, wind orchestras, symphony orchestras, choirs, street bands, steel bands, brass bands, as well as jazz and funk groups. The public can wander between the different stages set up on the site.
2026 Highlights
The 2026 edition welcomes the group Archimède as a guest. An exceptional creation is also on the program: a large choir bringing together several choral ensembles accompanied by the Orchestre symphonique de la Haute-Mayenne. The evening concludes with Le Bal des Variétistes, from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Location
The festival takes place in the village of Bais (53160), a commune located east of the Mayenne department, between Laval and Évron.

By car: Bais is located 25 km east of Laval, accessible via the D57. Free parking near the village.
By train: Nearest SNCF station: Laval (25 min by car).
