The documentary film festival at Ciné Toboggan in Décines
Les Écrans du Doc is the annual documentary film event at Ciné Toboggan in Décines-Charpieu, on the outskirts of Lyon. Every March, the festival offers a week of screenings of auteur documentaries, followed by citizen debates with directors, historians, and specialists. Around fifteen selected films, including several previews, invite a unique, attentive, and sensitive look at the contemporary world.
Created in 2012, the Les Écrans du Doc festival is held annually at the Ciné Toboggan in Décines-Charpieu, in the Lyon metropolitan area. Supported by the Toboggan programming team, this festival has established itself as a major event for documentary cinema in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
At a time when images circulate continuously and disinformation weakens our perception of reality, documentary cinema appears more than ever as an essential space for questioning and understanding the world. Les Écrans du Doc invites documentary creation to educate our gaze and sharpen our critical thinking, to better grasp the complexity of the world around us.
Each edition offers a selection of around fifteen documentary films, chosen for the quality of their perspective, the strength of their message, and their ability to spark debate. Several films are screened as previews, in the presence of their directors. The themes covered span a wide spectrum: environmental issues, social justice, cultural narratives, intimacy and the collective, contemporary societal challenges.
Each screening is followed by a citizen debate with the participation of directors, filmmakers, historians, documentary specialists, and activist associations. These discussions allow for extending the reflection initiated by the films and offering the audience additional keys to understanding. This participatory dimension makes Les Écrans du Doc a festival where the viewer is an active participant in collective reflection.
The festival takes place at the Ciné Toboggan, the municipal cinema of Décines-Charpieu, classified as art and essay. Located within the Le Toboggan cultural complex, this venue offers a demanding film program throughout the year, combining auteur films, youth cinema, and mainstream releases. Les Écrans du Doc represents the annual highlight of the Toboggan's documentary programming.
The 15th edition of Les Écrans du Doc will be held from March 24 to 29, 2026, at Ciné Toboggan in Décines-Charpieu. Sixteen documentary films will be presented, including five previews in the presence of the directors, for a week of screenings and citizen debates on auteur documentaries.
