Free music and street arts festival in L'Huisserie
Les Épouvantails is a free music and street arts festival organized annually since 2013 in L'Huisserie, near Laval in Mayenne. Supported by the association of the same name and about sixty volunteers, the event offers an evening of eclectic concerts — rock, pop, reggae, electro — and street performances on the Place du Maine. Family-friendly and convivial, the festival welcomes between 1,000 and 1,500 spectators for eight free shows, including five concerts and three street arts performances.
Created in 2013 by a group of music and performing arts enthusiasts, the Les Épouvantails festival has established itself as a festive and family-friendly event in L'Huisserie, a town located near Laval. Every year, the Place du Maine transforms into an open-air stage for an evening of completely free concerts and street performances.
The festival offers a deliberately eclectic program, mixing rock, indie pop, reggae, electro, psychedelic dance rock, and afro groove. The 12th edition featured bands like Luck (indie pop rock), Better Than Five (groovy pop), Club Mutant (rock), The Gluteens (psychedelic electro dance rock), Badegna Foli (reggae afro groove), as well as a DJ set by François Charraire and the street company Diego et Joanes.
Alongside the concerts, street arts play an important role in the program. Three street performances are offered at each edition, featuring street theater, circus, and comedy that appeal to all ages. This combination of music and street arts makes Les Épouvantails a multidisciplinary festival accessible to all audiences.
The Les Épouvantails association relies on a team of 13 permanent members and over 60 volunteers mobilized on the day of the event to manage organization, technical aspects, catering, and bar services. With a budget ranging between 16,000 and 17,000 euros, the festival remains a human-scale event, rooted in the life of the community.
Les Épouvantails attracts between 1,000 and 1,500 spectators each year to the Place du Maine. Admission is free and the festival is open to all ages, making this evening a moment of sharing and conviviality in the heart of L'Huisserie.
The 13th edition of Les Épouvantails is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Place du Maine in L'Huisserie. The festival will once again offer an evening of free concerts and street performances starting at 6:30 PM.
