The essential gastronomic and cultural event of Aurillac
Les Européennes du Goût is the major gastronomic and cultural festival in Aurillac, organized each early summer by Aurillac Développement on behalf of the Communauté d'Agglomération du Bassin d'Aurillac. Since 2004, the event has showcased the culinary know-how of Cantal and Europe through chef demonstrations, an amateur cooking competition, the Goudots Gourmands competition, producer markets, tasting workshops, hikes, and concerts. Nearly 30,000 visitors participate each year.
Created in 2004, Les Européennes du Goût has become in a few years one of the major gastronomic events in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Organized by Aurillac Développement for the Communauté d'Agglomération du Bassin d'Aurillac (now Aurillac Agglo), in partnership with the City of Aurillac and the Tourist Office, this festival celebrates the richness of European terroirs with a particular focus on Cantal products and know-how.
Each edition hosts renowned chefs who perform public culinary demonstrations, showcasing local products with creativity and passion. Over the years, chefs from France and Europe have shared their techniques and recipes, offering visitors a true gastronomic spectacle. An amateur cooking competition also allows enthusiasts to test their talent before a jury of professionals, around a theme that changes each year.
A highlight of the festival, the Goudots Gourmands competition, organized by the Tourist Office of the Pays d'Aurillac, invites the public to taste and evaluate emblematic products of the Cantal region. Visitors vote for their favorites, awarding the prestigious Goudots d'Or, d'Argent, and de Bronze. This unique competition, where the public is the sole jury, has helped to make local producers of cheese, cured meats, gentian, and other specialties known and recognized.
The festival takes place on the banks of the Jordanne and the Cours d'Angoulême, transforming the heart of Aurillac into a large gourmet village. A market of producers and artisans from all over France and Europe offers a palette of flavors: cheeses, cured meats, wines, craft beers, jams, spices, chocolates, and pastries. Tasting workshops allow the curious to refine their palate, while entertainment for children and free concerts punctuate the weekend.
Les Européennes du Goût contributes to the influence of Cantal and its agri-food sectors. Each edition highlights a specific theme or sector, allowing visitors to discover the diversity of local productions. The event attracts around 30,000 visitors each year, strengthening the tourist appeal of Aurillac and its region. Admission is free and the activities are open to all, making this festival a moment of popular and friendly sharing.
