The gourmet gathering on the second Sunday of June in the Cère valley
Every year, on the second Sunday of June, the village of Thiézac, in the heart of the Cère valley in Cantal, hosts its Gastronomy Festival. This friendly and family-oriented event celebrates the traditional recipes of Haute-Auvergne: pounti, bourriols, tripoux and other Cantal specialties. Culinary workshops, a gourmet market of local producers, and tastings punctuate this festive Sunday, which is free and open to all, at the foot of the Cantal mountains.
Nestled in the Cère valley, at the foot of Puy Griou and Plomb du Cantal, the village of Thiézac is a green setting that hosts one of the department's most charming gastronomic festivals. Every year, on the second Sunday of June, the commune transforms into a vast open-air market dedicated to the flavors of the Cantal region. This event, organized by the One Two Tripoux association, has become a highlight for food lovers and enthusiasts of traditional Auvergne cuisine.
The Thiézac Gastronomy Festival celebrates the exceptional culinary heritage of Haute-Auvergne. Among the specialties highlighted, pounti, a savory pâté made from flour, eggs, chard, and prunes, is one of the region's emblematic dishes. Bourriols, thick buckwheat pancakes that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or dessert, delight the most curious palates. Tripoux, an emblematic, slow-cooked dish from Carladès, completes this gourmet panorama. Beyond these classics, visitors discover the richness of Cantal cheeses — Cantal AOP, Salers, Saint-Nectaire — as well as artisanal charcuterie and sweet regional treats.
The festival program offers a complete immersion in local gastronomy. Culinary workshops allow visitors to get hands-on and learn to prepare traditional recipes under the guidance of passionate chefs. Demonstrations of cheese making, pounti preparation, or bourriols cooking on a cast-iron griddle punctuate the day.
The gourmet market brings together producers and artisans from all over Cantal and neighboring departments. Cheesemakers, charcutiers, bakers, beekeepers, market gardeners, and winemakers present their best products. Visitors can taste and buy directly from the producers, in a warm and authentic atmosphere.
The Thiézac Gastronomy Festival is not just about the pleasures of the table. Musical entertainment accompanies the tastings throughout Sunday, with traditional groups and orchestras making visitors dance in the village square. Traditional games and activities for children complete the program, making this event a truly family-friendly festival.
Admission is entirely free, making the festival accessible to all audiences. On-site meals, prepared with local products, allow visitors to extend the gourmet experience in a village festival atmosphere.
Enjoying the Thiézac Gastronomy Festival is also an opportunity to discover a remarkable natural setting. The Cère valley, dominated by the peaks of the Cantal Massif, offers magnificent landscapes ideal for hiking. The Faillitoux waterfall, the lush summer pastures, and the mountain burons are all walks to combine with a visit to the festival. The village itself, with its volcanic stone houses and Romanesque church, is worth a careful stroll.
