Pastoral performances in the villages of Montreuillois
Les Muses Buissonnières are traveling performances that transform the villages of Montreuillois into open-air theaters. Integrated into the Les Malins Plaisirs festival, these pastoral performances offer guided walks through the rural communes around Montreuil-sur-Mer. The public discovers a village during a guided tour followed by an outdoor performance. Free upon reservation, they offer an experience combining rural heritage and live performance.
Les Muses Buissonnières offer a unique artistic proposition that brings live performance to the heart of the Montreuillois countryside. Each summer, as part of the Les Malins Plaisirs festival, the most beautiful villages in the hinterland of the Côte d'Opale become open-air theater stages, offering the public a new and immersive cultural experience.
The concept of Les Muses Buissonnières is based on a guided walk through a village, followed by an outdoor theater performance. The route, about an hour long, allows visitors to discover the architectural and landscape heritage of the village – its stone alleys, churches, farms, and panoramas – before settling down for a performance staged in a natural and picturesque setting.
Each year, one or more villages in the Montreuillois region are chosen to host Les Muses Buissonnières. Saint-Josse, Airon-Notre-Dame, and other communes have served as backdrops for these pastoral performances. The shows are harmoniously integrated into the village scenery, creating an osmosis between art and rural heritage.
The performances offered as part of Les Muses Buissonnières are led by professional artists: actors, directors, musicians, and storytellers. The shows combine theater, music, and poetry, with original creations or adaptations designed for the outdoors. Artistic quality is paramount, in an intimate and friendly format.
Les Muses Buissonnières are part of the Les Malins Plaisirs festival, a major cultural event in the Montreuillois region that takes place every summer in August. This multidisciplinary festival offers performances, concerts, readings, and artistic encounters in the fortified town of Montreuil-sur-Mer and the surrounding villages, contributing to the cultural influence of this area of the Côte d'Opale.
The Montreuillois region, with its green hills, charming villages, and classified citadel, provides an exceptional setting for outdoor live performance. Les Muses Buissonnières reveal the beauty of these preserved landscapes while demonstrating that culture can flourish outside the walls of theaters, close to the inhabitants and their living environment.
Les Muses Buissonnières return in August 2026 for new guided performance walks in the villages of Montreuillois, as part of the Les Malins Plaisirs festival.
