Performing arts, young audience, and street arts festival in Nantes
Since 2015, Les Scènes Vagabondes has been the emblematic performing arts festival in Nantes, driven by the City of Nantes with a dual objective: to promote Nantes' professional cultural scene and to make it accessible to all residents, including those who are less exposed to artistic offerings. The highlight of the Saison Vagabonde—a program of approximately sixty free shows in the eleven districts of Nantes from January to June—the festival unfolds over three days in a large Nantes park, which changes each year.
One of the festival's original features is its traveling nature. Each edition takes place in a new city park, allowing Nantes residents to rediscover their green heritage from an artistic perspective. Le Grand-Blottereau, La Roseraie, La Gaudinière, La Beaujoire: these are just some of the locations that transform for a weekend into a vast open-air performance space, featuring six stages, a big top, a straw amphitheater, and a book village.
The program of Les Scènes Vagabondes encompasses the full richness of performing arts: theater, street arts, dance, music, puppetry, circus, slam, and shows for young audiences. Each edition presents about thirty artistic projects, exclusively recent creations by Nantes' professional artists. For several years, the festival has implemented a strictly gender-balanced program, ensuring equal representation of women and men on stage.
Completely free, the festival is designed for families. The young audience program plays a significant role, with puppetry, circus, and theater shows suitable for children. The Book Village, present throughout the festival, offers a selection of children's books, comics, and graphic arts, readings, writing workshops, and author encounters. Food trucks serving local products complete the offerings, making the festival a moment of friendly sharing.
The festival returns from June 26 to 28, 2026 for a new edition in a large Nantes park, concluding the Saison Vagabonde 2026 which offered over forty free shows in the eleven districts of Nantes between January and June.
True to its spirit, the festival will offer a strictly gender-balanced program mixing theater, street arts, dance, music, puppetry, circus, and shows for young audiences. Recent creations by Nantes' professional artists will be featured on the various stages in the park.
The Book Village, creative workshops, local food, and relaxation areas in the heart of the park will make this weekend a family-friendly and convivial event, free and open to all.
The festival takes place in a large Nantes park, which changes each year. In 2025, the festival will be held at Parc du Grand-Blottereau, boulevard Auguste Péneau, 44300 Nantes. In 2024, it was held at Parc de la Gaudinière, and in 2023 at Parc de la Roseraie.
