The free street arts and concerts festival in the heart of Connerré
Created in 2009, Les Troubles Ville is the free street arts and music festival in Connerré, Sarthe. Organized every last Saturday of August by the MJC Festival association, it offers an eclectic program mixing street theater, circus, shows for young audiences, and open-air concerts. For sixteen years, this popular and family-friendly event has enlivened the heart of Connerré with street performances in the afternoon and free concerts in the evening, in a festive spirit open to all audiences.
In 2009, the municipality of Connerré organized a first street arts festival in the town center. The success was such that the association MJC Festival, a branch of the MJC de Connerré, was quickly created to take over from the elected officials and perpetuate the event. Since then, Les Troubles Ville has become the essential cultural event at the end of summer in Connerré, driven by passionate volunteers.
The festival takes place every last Saturday of August and is divided into two main parts. In the afternoon, starting at 3 p.m., street arts take over the town: street theater, circus, roaming performances, shows, and performances for young audiences follow one another in the streets and public spaces of Connerré. From the first edition in 2010, five different shows mixing theater, circus, and music were offered.
In the evening, from 7:30 p.m., the music takes over with free concerts until 11:30 p.m. The musical programming is eclectic, mixing rock, French chanson, world music, and local artists. Among the artists programmed over the editions: Rue de la Soif (Nantes rock band celebrating 20 years on stage), Julien Déniel, and many regional groups.
Admission to the festival is completely free, with funding partly from refreshment and food sales. This free admission is at the heart of the association's project: to make culture and performing arts accessible to everyone in rural areas. The festival is aimed at all audiences, from the youngest to the oldest, with programming specifically designed for young audiences in the afternoon.
