About L'ImpruDanse
L'ImpruDanse — edition 2026
L'ImpruDanse 2026 – 10th Edition, March 14 to April 4
The 10th edition of the L'ImpruDanse Festival marks a double anniversary: that of the festival itself and the 30 years of the Théâtres en Dracénie. To celebrate this important milestone, the 2026 program has been designed with particular ambition: 16 performances on the program, complemented by a series of practical workshops, documentary screenings, exhibitions, and artistic encounters.
From March 14 to April 4, 2026, Draguignan will be the capital of dance in the Var. The movement arts will be celebrated in all their forms and in all their geographical and cultural diversity: European and world contemporary dance, Spanish flamenco, French hip-hop, Argentine tango, South African gumboot and pantsula. This deliberately diverse and intercultural program reflects the artistic vision of the Théâtres en Dracénie: to make dance a universal language that brings people and cultures together.
Among the confirmed artists for this anniversary edition are: Ana Pérez for a program of contemporary flamenco, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with an international creation, Kader Attou presenting a work of choreographic hip-hop, Rachid Ouramdane with a contemporary dance piece, and Paulo Azevedo for tango. The closing day on April 4, 2026, is planned as a grand, open, and festive celebration of dance.

L'ImpruDanse: Ten Years of Dance in the Heart of Dracénie
The L'ImpruDanse Festival is more than just a dance festival: it is an ambitious and inclusive cultural project led by the Théâtres en Dracénie, the reference cultural venue for the Draguignan and Dracénie region. Since its first edition, this multidisciplinary festival has established itself as the essential meeting point for dance lovers in the Var, offering an intense immersion into the movement arts in all their forms every spring.
A 10th Anniversary Edition: 16 Performances, One Week of Creations
The 10th edition of the L'ImpruDanse Festival, which also marks the 30th anniversary of the Théâtres en Dracénie, will take place from March 14 to April 4, 2026. For this anniversary, the program has been expanded to include 16 performances, along with practical workshops, documentaries, and artistic encounters, forming a dense and comprehensive program over more than three weeks.
Contemporary dance is at the heart of the festival, but L'ImpruDanse generously opens up to other disciplines: flamenco, hip-hop, Argentine tango, gumboot, pantsula… The resolutely multidisciplinary and intercultural approach of the festival makes it a unique place for discovery, where such varied styles can coexist and dialogue within the same edition.
Internationally Renowned Artists
L'ImpruDanse brings together choreographers and dancers from the national and international scene. Among the regularly invited artists are major figures of world contemporary dance:
- Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, world-renowned Belgian-Moroccan choreographer
- Kader Attou, director of the National Choreographic Center of La Rochelle, pioneer of artistic hip-hop
- Rachid Ouramdane, director of the Théâtre National de Chaillot
- Ana Pérez, flamenco dancer and choreographer
- Paulo Azevedo, master of Argentine tango
The program mixes recent creations and revivals of iconic performances, allowing the Draguignan audience to access works they would often not have been able to see without traveling to Paris or major cultural metropolises.
Practical Workshops Open to All
L'ImpruDanse is not limited to performances: it offers practical workshops open to all levels, led by invited artists. Flamenco, gumboot dance, pantsula, and contemporary dance are on the program for these introductions, allowing the public to experience dance from the inside, no longer just as spectators but as practitioners. These workshops are increasingly popular with the residents of Dracénie, demonstrating a real interest in amateur practice.
The "Docu Dance Thursdays"
An original program of documentaries on dance – the "Docu Dance Thursdays" – enriches each edition of the festival with a reflective and historical dimension. These screenings provide a better understanding of the invited artists, the artistic currents represented, and the history of contemporary dance as a whole.
An Accessible Festival Rooted in the Territory
Accessibility is a fundamental value of L'ImpruDanse. Special services are offered to facilitate everyone's participation: TED Bus transport service from the towns of Dracénie (booking 7 days in advance), childcare service during certain performances, and vibrating vests for hearing-impaired individuals during specific shows. This accessibility policy reflects the commitment of the Théâtres en Dracénie to make dance an experience accessible to all residents of the territory, without exception.
