Les Arcs-sur-Argens, a medieval village in the heart of the Provençal vineyards

Les Arcs-sur-Argens is a medieval town in the Var, perched on a hill overlooking the Argens plain and the vineyards of the Côtes de Provence. Its medieval ramparts, cobbled streets, Villeneuve Castle, and Sainte-Roseline Chapel (with its famous Marc Chagall mosaics) make it one of the most remarkable heritage villages in the department. This terroir, rich in garrigue, oak forests, and vineyards, offers bees exceptional floral diversity, from which local beekeepers produce high-quality honeys.

Beekeeping tradition is deeply rooted in Provençal culture. Since antiquity, bees have been considered messengers of the gods in Mediterranean mythology. Provence, with its lavenders, thymes, savory, rosemary, and chestnut trees, produces honeys of incomparable diversity and aromatic richness. Lavender honey, garrigue honey, chestnut honey, and heather honey are the region's main specialties.

The Fête du Miel: thirty years of beekeeping passion

The Fête du Miel des Arcs-sur-Argens is one of the oldest and most popular beekeeping events in the Var. Every first weekend of October, the village brings together more than 30 beekeepers from the Var, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and Vaucluse, who present and sell their products under marquees set up in the town center.

The diversity of honeys presented is remarkable: lavender honey from Haute-Provence, garrigue honey with aromas of thyme and rosemary, woody and slightly bitter chestnut honey, amber and powerful heather honey, spring wildflower honey, sunflower honey, and original creations infused with Provençal herbs, vanilla, or spices. Beekeepers also offer fresh royal jelly, propolis, artisanal gingerbreads, honey candies, and beeswax cosmetics.

Demonstrations, workshops, and educational activities

The educational dimension is at the heart of the Fête du Miel. Glass-walled beehives are set up on site, allowing visitors to observe the bees' work safely. Experienced beekeepers explain live the functioning of the colony, the role of the queen, the communication dances of the bees, and the honey extraction techniques using a centrifuge. These demonstrations, accessible to all, are particularly appreciated by children who discover with wonder the fascinating social organization of bees.

Comparative tasting workshops allow visitors to refine their palate by distinguishing the flavors, textures, and aromas of different honey varieties. Workshops for making beeswax candles and introductory sessions on making gingerbread are offered to children and adults. Conferences on bee protection, threats to biodiversity, and environmentally friendly beekeeping practices complete the educational program.

An artisan market and a Provençal atmosphere

The Fête du Miel also hosts an artisan market featuring potters, soap makers, herbalists, olive oil producers, and local creators. The food stalls offer honey-based specialties: goat cheese with lavender honey, homemade nougat, honey-glazed skewers, Provençal herbal teas, and artisanal mead. Musical entertainment (Provençal music group, accordionist) and children's games punctuate the two days of celebration in a family-friendly and convivial atmosphere. Admission is completely free, contributing to the attractiveness of this event which attracts several thousand visitors each year from all over the Var and neighboring regions.

Fête du Miel — edition 2026

33rd edition of the Fête du Miel des Arcs-sur-Argens, first weekend of October 2026. More than 30 Provençal beekeepers gathered in the medieval village for two days of beekeeping discovery: local honeys, demonstrations with glass beehives, educational workshops for children, comparative tastings, and an artisan market. Free admission.

33rd Fête du Miel des Arcs-sur-Argens - 2026 Edition

The 33rd edition of the Fête du Miel des Arcs-sur-Argens will take place on October 3rd and 4th, 2026, the first weekend of October, in the historic center of the medieval village (83460). This unmissable beekeeping event in the Var will once again bring together more than 30 Provençal beekeepers from the Var, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and Vaucluse for two days of discovery, tasting, and conviviality.

Visitors will be able to explore a wide range of Provençal local honeys—lavender, garrigue, chestnut, heather, wildflower—and discover other hive products: fresh royal jelly, propolis, pollen, wax, artisanal mead, and cosmetic products. Glass-walled beehives will allow observation of colonies in activity, while beekeepers explain the functioning of the hive, the role of each bee, and honey harvesting techniques.

The educational workshops (beeswax candles, gingerbread, comparative tasting) will be aimed at both young and old. Conferences on biodiversity and pollinator protection will raise public awareness of the environmental issues related to bees. The artisan market and the catering specialized in honey products will complete this festive and educational weekend, which is entirely free, in an exceptional medieval setting.
