The international gastronomy festival on the French Riviera
Created in 2006 in tribute to chef Roger Vergé, the Les Étoiles de Mougins festival is the largest gastronomic event on the French Riviera. Every September, the old village of Mougins hosts over a hundred chefs from around the world for culinary demonstrations, cooking workshops, tastings, and competitions. The festival is a meeting point for chefs and the general public, bringing together molecular cuisine, Mediterranean terroir, and international flavors in an exceptional Provençal setting.
The festival Les Étoiles de Mougins was born in 2006 on the initiative of the mayor of Mougins, Richard Galy, in tribute to chef Roger Vergé, a legendary figure in French gastronomy and founder of the renowned Moulin de Mougins. The first edition brought together the titans of French cuisine: Paul Bocuse, Pierre Troisgros, Michel Guérard, Gaston Lenôtre, Roger Vergé, and Alain Ducasse. This foundational success laid the groundwork for a festival that has become a must-attend event.
Each year, the medieval old village of Mougins transforms into an open-air gastronomic stage. Over 120 chefs, including Meilleurs Ouvriers de France and guest of honor, from 18 different nationalities take over the cobbled streets to offer the public culinary demonstrations, cooking classes with tasting, workshops for children, and conferences on the art of good eating. From molecular cuisine to more traditional approaches to regional flavors, from South American to Northern European cuisine, all culinary trends are represented.
The festival highlights the next generation of gastronomy through two prestigious competitions: the Concours du Jeune Chef Roger Vergé and the Concours du Jeune Pâtissier. These events offer young talents the opportunity to compete before a jury of renowned chefs and gain recognition from professionals and the public. Book signings with cookbook authors and conferences on contemporary gastronomy issues complete the program.
Perched on the hills above Cannes, Mougins is a medieval village renowned for its art de vivre. The legacy of Roger Vergé and the presence of numerous Michelin-starred restaurants make it a gastronomic capital of the French Riviera. The village is also known for its art galleries and its photography museum. The festival takes advantage of this exceptional setting, with the narrow streets and squares of the old village becoming stages where cuisine is put on display.
Beyond the chefs' demonstrations, the festival hosts around seventy exhibitors: local producers, artisans, winemakers, roasters, chocolatiers, and culinary publishers. Visitors can discover and purchase exceptional products while enjoying the festive atmosphere of the village. Admission to the festival is free, with only certain cooking workshops with tasting being ticketed.
The 17th edition of Les Étoiles de Mougins is expected in September 2026 in the old village of Mougins. The guest of honor and the program will be announced on the festival's official website.
