A festival dedicated to young European creation

Created in 2000 by the Héliotrope association, Un Festival C'est Trop Court! was born from the desire to promote films under one hour and to highlight young European cinematic creation. In over twenty-five years of existence, the festival has established itself as a benchmark event for short films in France, attracting filmmakers, film industry professionals, and cinephiles from around the world to Nice every autumn.

Competition sections

The festival is structured around several demanding competitive sections:

  • European Competition: selection of films produced and/or co-produced in Europe, all categories combined
  • Shorts from Here: films shot and/or produced in the Sud region and Corsica, promoting local creation
  • Experience: competition dedicated to experimental films, video art, and new cinema
  • Animation: competition reserved for films from European animation schools

Emblematic venues in Nice

The festival takes over the most beautiful cultural venues in Nice for its screenings and events: the Cinémathèque de Nice, Le 109 (contemporary culture hub), the MAMAC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), the Villa Arson, the Cinéma Mercury, the Rialto, and La Passerelle. This diversity of venues allows the festival to reach varied audiences and to anchor short films in the cultural life of Nice.

Masterclasses, meetings, and special evenings

Beyond screenings, Un Festival C'est Trop Court! offers a rich program of masterclasses with established filmmakers, professional meetings, round tables, and themed special evenings. Each year, a guest country is honored with a panorama of its short film production. In 2024, Greece was the guest country for the 24th edition.

A springboard for tomorrow's filmmakers

The festival plays an essential role as a springboard for young European filmmakers. Many directors who have passed through the competition have gone on to have international careers. The partnership with Université Côte d'Azur and film schools strengthens this training and discovery dimension, making Un Festival C'est Trop Court! a place of transmission and sharing for the rising generations of European cinema.

C'est Trop Court — edition 2026

26th edition of Un Festival C'est Trop Court! expected in October 2026 in Nice. The festival will continue its mission to promote European short films.
