Artisanal Christmas market in the shadow of the thousand-year-old Romanesque abbey
In the shadow of its thousand-year-old Romanesque abbey, Marmoutier hosts a warm and authentic Christmas market every late November. The event "Marmoutier on the Christmas Trail" transforms the village into a magical setting with about twenty artisans and creators in the communal hall of Schlossgarten, chalets on the abbey square, fire-breather shows, the visit of Saint Nicholas, workshops for children, and a preserved Christmas atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of large urban markets.
Marmoutier, a small town in the Pays de Saverne nestled in the sub-Vosges hills, is famous for its 11th-century Romanesque abbey, one of the most beautiful in Alsace with its three-towered red and yellow sandstone facade. It is in this exceptional heritage setting that the Christmas market takes place each year, a human-sized event that cultivates authenticity and conviviality.
The Marmoutier Christmas market brings together about twenty exhibitors, artisans, and creators in the Schlossgarten multi-purpose hall and in chalets set up on the abbey square. You will find:
The entertainment program celebrates the magic of Christmas:
The market includes a solidarity dimension with a sale organized by La Forge for the benefit of the Friends of Home Saint-Joseph, and a sale of Christmas trees by the Lutins du Tannenwald for local charities.
The Marmoutier Christmas Market returns in late November and early December 2026 to the Schlossgarten hall and the abbey square. Artisans, entertainment, and Christmas magic are on the program.
