Wine celebration in the heart of the historic city of Grand Cru Bruderthal
Heir to a long winemaking tradition, the Molsheim Wine Festival celebrates Alsatian terroir wines each autumn, particularly the prestigious Grand Cru Bruderthal, recognized since 1992. Local winemakers open their cellars and offer tastings of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris from this exceptional hillside. Musical entertainment, regional gastronomy, and the traditional weighing of the Grape Queen make this event a must-see on the Alsace Wine Route.
Nestled at the foot of the Vosges mountains, Molsheim is a historic city of character, known for its Renaissance heritage, its Jesuit church, and above all its Grand Cru Bruderthal vineyard. Each autumn, the city celebrates its wine traditions with the Wine Festival, a popular and friendly event that attracts lovers of Alsatian wine.
Bruderthal, whose name means "Brothers' Valley" in reference to the Carthusians who cultivated vines as early as the Middle Ages, benefits from an ideal southeast exposure and a marly soil conducive to the expression of great wines. The noble grape varieties — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris — develop remarkable aromatic richness and minerality here. The festival is the perfect opportunity to taste them directly from the winemakers.
An emblematic highlight of the festival, the Weighing of the Grape Queen is a centuries-old tradition: the elected Queen is weighed in front of the Hôtel de la Monnaie, and the winemakers offer her her weight in wine. This joyous ceremony, followed by a reception, kicks off a Sunday of festivities in the city's medieval streets.
The Molsheim Wine Festival offers a rich program of entertainment:
The festivities take place around the Hôtel de la Monnaie, a jewel of Alsatian Renaissance architecture, and in the picturesque streets of the historic center. This unique setting gives the festival a special atmosphere, blending history, heritage, and conviviality.
The Molsheim Wine Festival returns in October 2026 to celebrate the Grand Cru Bruderthal and the wine traditions of the Alsatian city. Tastings, Grape Queen weighing, and entertainment are on the program.
