The musical festival of the back-to-school season in Montluçon
Created in 2023 by the City of Montluçon in partnership with MuPop (Museum of Popular Music), the Montlu'Sounds Festival is the musical event of the back-to-school season on Place Piquand. For three days, this open-air festival offers an eclectic program mixing pop, rock, and French variety, with national headliners and opening acts by local artists. Born to celebrate the return to school with music, the event has won over the people of Montluçon since its first edition, attracting over 2,000 spectators.
The Montlu'Sounds Festival was born in 2023 from a collaboration between the City of Montluçon and MuPop (Museum of Popular Music), on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of this unique museum in France dedicated to popular music. The objective: to offer the people of Montluçon and visitors a festive and unifying musical event to celebrate the return to school.
Located in the heart of Montluçon on Place Piquand, the festival takes over one of the city's most emblematic venues. For three evenings, the square transforms into an open-air stage featuring local artists in the opening acts and renowned French headliners.
The program, deliberately intergenerational, mixes pop, rock, variety, and French chanson to bring together all generations. The organizers are committed to highlighting the local talents of the Allier region by offering them exceptional visibility as opening acts for the main concerts.
The first edition, in September 2023, immediately found its audience with Christophe Willem as the headliner and over 2,000 spectators gathered over the three evenings. The second edition in August 2024 took a leap forward with an ambitious program including Cali, a tribute to U2 by U2 Addiction, and a special "Totalement 80" evening bringing together eleven iconic artists from the 1980s, including David & Jonathan, Pauline Ester, Gold, and Partenaire Particulier, all hosted by Jérôme Anthony.
The Montlu'Sounds Festival is part of Montluçon's cultural dynamic, a city with a rich medieval and musical heritage. The partnership with MuPop, the only museum in France dedicated to the history of amplified popular music, gives the event a unique cultural dimension. The festival contributes to the city''s attractiveness and to the animation of the back-to-school period, a time traditionally quieter in terms of events.
With food and drink stands, a friendly atmosphere, and a carefully curated program, the Montlu'Sounds Festival is establishing itself as an unmissable event of the back-to-school season in the Allier region.
