Every June 21, Bourg-en-Bresse celebrates the Fête de la Musique: the city center becomes pedestrian and is covered with open-air stages where local groups and amateur formations perform. Organized by Bourg-en-Bresse Destinations and the City, the day is entirely free and mixes all styles, from pop to gospel, including rock, classical, and variety.
The Fête de la Musique in Bourg-en-Bresse
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms Bourg-en-Bresse into an open-air stage every June 21. The city center is given over to musicians and walkers: squares, forecourts, and esplanades host free concerts from mid-afternoon until the heart of the night, in all genres and for all audiences.
A festival spread throughout the city center
For the 2026 edition, the day unfolds in two parts: "small acoustic strolls" in the afternoon, in more intimate settings like square Lalande and parc de la Madeleine, then a dozen stages that come alive from 6 PM, from place Edgar-Quinet to esplanade de la Comédie, passing by the Hôtel-de-Ville, the H2M (cour André-Malraux) and the forecourt of the médiathèque Camus.
More than thirty local groups and formations perform throughout the day, in a wide variety of styles: pop, rock, variety, classical music, gospel, and contemporary music. Indoor concerts complement the event, notably at the co-cathédrale Notre-Dame and the chapelle des Jésuites, while central bars and restaurants extend the celebration onto their terraces.
