Mort de Rires: comedy comes to the Château de Chazey-sur-Ain

Mort de Rires is the autumn edition of the renowned Printemps de Pérouges, one of the largest music and performing arts festivals in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Every October, the festival takes over the Château de Chazey-sur-Ain to offer a week of shows under a marquee, in an intimate and friendly atmosphere.

A historic and welcoming setting

The Château de Chazey-sur-Ain, a listed historic monument overlooking the Ain valley, provides an exceptional setting for this autumn event. A heated marquee is set up in the castle grounds, creating an intimate performance space where the audience is right up close to the artists. The atmosphere is radically different from large summer festivals: here, everything is designed for closeness, friendliness and sharing.

An eclectic comedy programme

The Mort de Rires programme is centred on comedy in all its forms: one-man shows, stand-up, comic musical shows, burlesque cabaret. Each edition offers a week of shows, with a different event every evening. The festival welcomes established comedians — Sellig, Didier Gustin, Laurent Gerra — alongside emerging talents from the French comedy scene.

Beyond pure comedy, Mort de Rires dares to mix genres by programming burlesque cabaret shows, offbeat concerts and original themed evenings. The 2025 edition, themed around Halloween, featured for the first time a Burlesk show and a candlelit concert with the Quatuor Wassily.

The Printemps de Pérouges legacy

Mort de Rires benefits from the expertise and network of the Printemps de Pérouges, a festival founded in 1994 that has established itself as one of the major cultural events in Ain and the greater Lyon area. The autumn edition carries on the spirit of the Printemps de Pérouges — artistic quality, accessibility and local roots — in a more intimate and focused format.

An accessible and convivial event

The festival is designed to be accessible to all. Prices remain affordable, with individual tickets from 20 EUR and multi-evening passes at preferential rates. The venue is wheelchair accessible. A light refreshments area is available before each show, allowing festivalgoers to make the most of the evening in the castle grounds.

Located forty minutes from Lyon and thirty minutes from Bourg-en-Bresse, the Château de Chazey-sur-Ain is easily accessible by car. Free parking is available for audience members.
