Sens's great open-air summer festival of contemporary music
Every summer since 2015, MusicaSens transforms the heart of Sens into a huge open-air stage. During two free and festive evenings, the festival offers an eclectic program mixing big names in variety music, musical tributes, and emerging artists from the Yonne scene revealed by the Sens Academy. Several thousand spectators gather there every year, in the heart of the Sénonais region, for a popular, friendly, and free event that has become an unmissable summer highlight in Burgundy.
Since its creation in 2015, the MusicaSens festival has become the unmissable summer event in the Sénonais region. Organized by the City of Sens, this open-air event annually brings together several thousand spectators in the heart of the city for two entirely free evenings of music.
Born from the municipality's desire to offer all residents a large, popular, and accessible festival, MusicaSens has established itself as one of the cultural highlights of summer in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The festival combines local musical discovery with national programming, making each edition a family-friendly and festive event, rooted in its territory while opening up to the broader landscape of French and international music.
The strength of MusicaSens lies in the diversity and eclecticism of its program. Each edition happily alternates genres and generations: pop, French variety, rock, soul, electro, and covers of legends succeed each other on the large outdoor stage.
The festival has managed to unite very different audiences by programming both nationally renowned artists — Yannick Noah, Lââm, Gilbert Montagné, Jenifer, Louis Bertignac, Nâdiya, Peter Kingsbery, Dave, Allan Théo, Princess Erika — and artists from the local and regional scene, notably through highlighting the winners of the Sens Academy, a municipal music springboard that offers Yonne talents a professional stage in front of thousands of spectators.
MusicaSens has forged an identity around tribute shows and homages to great names in French song and rock. Evenings dedicated to hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, tributes to Claude François, Johnny Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell, and Jacques Dutronc, or major tributes to Jean-Jacques Goldman or Lady Gaga, have always generated considerable enthusiasm. These festive offerings allow all generations to come together around a common repertoire, that of the great songs that have shaped several decades of popular French music.
A true springboard for artists from the Yonne, the Sens Academy is a talent competition organized upstream of the festival. The finalist groups and artists have the exceptional opportunity to perform as opening acts for MusicaSens's main headliners, in front of an audience of thousands. This initiative reflects the commitment of the City of Sens to local cultural development and the support of emerging artists.
Long located on the mythical Place Jean-Jaurès in the heart of the city, the festival is adapting to the Promenade transformation works initiated in 2026 and is now moving to Place Garibaldi, a vast esplanade designed as a new modular space intended to host major Sénonais events (fair, funfair, MusicaSens). Sens, prefecture of the Yonne department, is a city with a rich historical past, the first archiepiscopal seat in France, which hosts this festival every summer as a celebration of its cultural life and social cohesion.
The total gratuity of MusicaSens reflects the municipality's vision: culture as a common good, accessible to all without condition.
Over the editions, MusicaSens has become much more than just a music festival: it is a unifying event for the entire Grand Sénonais agglomeration and beyond. It attracts visitors from surrounding communes but also from northern Burgundy, neighboring Île-de-France, and contributes to the tourist and cultural attractiveness of Sens.
The MusicaSens format — two consecutive evenings in early July — has become a well-established summer ritual for residents. The first evening, often featuring pop and timeless hits, gives way to a second, more festive and spectacular evening. A giant karaoke regularly closes the festivities, inviting the public to take the stage and become part of the celebration themselves. Additional activities — games, stalls, food trucks, and refreshment stands — complement the musical program to create a truly popular festival.
The 12th edition of MusicaSens will take place on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, 2026, for the first time on the new Place Garibaldi in Sens, following the transformation work on Place Jean-Jaurès. The free festival offers two open-air evenings featuring essential hits from the 90s-2000s (Lââm, Allan Théo, Princess Erika, Willy Denzey, Chris Anderson), major tribute shows (Lady Gaga, Goldman), and local talents from the Sens Academy.
For its 12th edition, the MusicaSens festival returns on July 3 and 4, 2026 with a change of scenery: following the transformation work on Place Jean-Jaurès and the redevelopment of the Promenades initiated in spring 2026, the festival is now setting up on Place Garibaldi (boulevard des Garibaldi), Sens' new large modular esplanade. True to its vocation as a major popular and free musical gathering, MusicaSens will offer two festive evenings, in a friendly and warm atmosphere, in the heart of the summer in Sens.
Organized by the City of Sens, the festival confirms its roots in local cultural life and its role as a highlight of the Burgundian summer. As every year, admission remains totally free for both evenings.
The first evening features the essential hits of the 90s and 2000s, in a big festive and intergenerational show. The lineup brings together Lââm, Allan Théo, Princess Erika, Chris Anderson, and Willy Denzey. The evening concludes with a giant open-air karaoke dedicated to French song, from Joe Dassin to Stromae.
In the first part, the three winners of the Sens Academy selected in May at the Canopée de la Foire — DriVest (acoustic rock), Donna Angel (winner of the online vote, over 1,200 voters), and Sparrow — will have the exceptional opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people.
The second evening features two major stage productions under the artistic direction of Erick Benzi:
Saturday afternoon also highlights the 16 finalists of the Sens Academy 2026 — Rodrig, Picky Lemon, Tenindje, GuitareSonglove, Sparrow, Clémence, Track, Donna Angel, Rainguurl, Hindigo, Thea Rose, DriVest, AZAÏS, Jérôme Thévenot, Candice, and Louis Bey — for a showcase of the emerging Yonne music scene.
As since its origins in 2015, MusicaSens remains entirely free, without reservation, open to all. Refreshment stands, food trucks, and entertainment will complete the experience throughout both evenings. To not miss any programming announcements, follow the news of the City of Sens on its official website and social networks.
