About Nuit des Musées

Every year in May, the European Night of Museums transforms Strasbourg into a vast, free, nocturnal cultural trail. Fourteen institutions — from the Palais Rohan to the MAMCS, from the Alsatian Museum to the BNU — exceptionally open their doors until midnight. Original guided tours, concerts, workshops, artistic performances, screenings, and fun activities liven up these historic sites. A unique event to rediscover the museum heritage of the Alsatian capital in a new light.

Night of Museums in Strasbourg: Culture After Dark

Launched in 2005 on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, the European Night of Museums has become a must-attend event on the Strasbourg cultural calendar. One Saturday in May, from dusk until midnight, the city's museums open their doors for free and offer extraordinary activities for audiences of all ages.

Fourteen Institutions Participating

Strasbourg boasts an exceptionally rich museum landscape, and the Night of Museums offers a unique opportunity to (re)discover it. Among the participating institutions:

  • The Archaeological Museum at the Palais Rohan, with its flash tours and baroque music concerts
  • The BNU (National and University Library), which is exceptionally opening its heritage reserves housing papyri, incunabula, and clay tablets
  • The Museum of Fine Arts in the majestic courtyard of the Palais Rohan, with an open-air concert
  • The MAMCS (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art)
  • The Alsatian Museum and its collections of popular art
  • The Tomi Ungerer Museum, dedicated to the Strasbourg-based illustrator
  • The Historical Museum of the city

Activities for All Audiences

Much more than just a late-night opening, the Night of Museums offers specially designed activities at each venue: themed guided tours, concerts, readings, creative workshops, screenings, artistic performances, and fun family trails. The national program "La classe, l'œuvre !" allows students to present their interpretation of a museum artwork.

A Nocturnal Trail Through the City

The magic of this evening also lies in the pleasure of strolling through the streets of Strasbourg between museums, enjoying the nocturnal atmosphere of the UNESCO World Heritage historic center. The tram network facilitates travel between the different sites, allowing you to visit several museums during the evening.
