Gourmet festival celebrating sea urchins in Palavas-les-Flots, Hérault
The Oursinade Palavasienne is a gourmet and festive event organized annually in Palavas-les-Flots (Hérault), on the left bank jetty near the Guinguette. This free event celebrates sea urchins and seafood in a friendly atmosphere animated by the Peña Provençale.
The Oursinade Palavasienne is a traditional event in Palavas-les-Flots, a seaside resort in Hérault located about fifteen kilometers south of Montpellier. Each year, the event brings together residents, holidaymakers, and seafood lovers around the tasting of fresh sea urchins and Mediterranean specialties.
On the left bank jetty, near the Guinguette Quai Paul Cunq, stands offer sea urchins, brasucades, oysters, tielles, and other local specialties. Occitan regional products are also highlighted: cold cuts, cheeses, regional wines. The musical atmosphere is provided by the Peña Provençale, whose brass and percussion accompany the tastings throughout the day.
Access to the event is free. However, organizers recommend arriving early to facilitate parking, as the Oursinade Palavasienne attracts a large and loyal audience. The festival is part of the commune's calendar of major events, alongside the Féria de la Mer, the Fête de la Saint-Pierre, and the Estivales du Levant.
Palavas-les-Flots, an emblematic seaside resort on the Languedoc coast, hosts the event on its left bank. The immediate proximity of the port, beach, and canals contributes to the maritime identity of the festival. The event promotes the tradition of local fishing and products from the Mediterranean and the neighboring Thau basin.
