Gourmet Soup and Chestnut Festival, Anduze (Gard)
The Anduze Soup and Chestnut Festival is an autumnal gourmet event in Gard, Occitanie, organized annually in early October by the UCIA d'Anduze. In the heart of the Cévennes, it celebrates the chestnut, an emblematic fruit of the region, through a grand soup competition, tastings, grilled chestnut stands, and an autumn market of producers and artisans.
The Soup and Chestnut Festival is one of Anduze's autumnal gourmet events in Gard. Organized by the UCIA d'Anduze (Union of Merchants, Industrialists and Artisans), it traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of October in the town center (Plan de Brie, covered square, town center streets).
The chestnut, long called the "bread tree" of the Cévennes, is honored for a day: grilled chestnuts, marrons, and local specialties accompany a grand soup competition open to residents, associations, restaurateurs, and merchants. Visitors can taste the competing soups (tasting bowl entry at a low price) and vote for their favorites.
The festival is accompanied by a market bringing together producers and artisans from the Cévennes region: honey, wines, cured meats, cheeses, artisanal creations. Entertainment and a friendly atmosphere punctuate the day in the historic center of Anduze, gateway to the Cévennes.
