About Cinespaña
Cinespaña is the Spanish and Portuguese film festival of Toulouse and Occitania. Created in 1996, it will celebrate its 31st edition in 2026. For about ten days in October, it offers a very broad panorama of recent Iberian cinematographic creation: feature films in competition, documentaries, short films, animations, special screenings, retrospectives, meetings with film crews, and literary events.
Cinespaña — edition 2026
The 31st edition of Cinespaña, the Spanish and Portuguese film festival, takes place from Friday, October 2 to Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Toulouse, followed by screenings in partner venues across Occitanie until October 31. The festival opens with La bola negra by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, winner of the Best Director Award at Cannes, and closes with La luz by Fernando Franco. There is a double "Violette d'honneur" award: actress Carmen Maura and director Jonás Trueba. The festival returns to the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, which will host the festival village.
Cinespaña 2026, 31st Edition
The AFICH association is organizing the festival in Toulouse from October 2 to 11, 2026, with screenings in partner venues across Occitanie from October 1 to 31. Screenings in Toulouse will be held at the Cinémathèque de Toulouse (two renovated screens), Pathé Wilson, ABC, American Cosmograph, and Le Cratère. The Instituto Cervantes and the Médiathèque José Cabanis will host screenings and meetings with free admission.
Double "Violette d'honneur"
This award, presented to Isabel Coixet in 2024 and Rossy de Palma in 2025, goes to Carmen Maura and Jonás Trueba in 2026. Films by both guests will be screened throughout the festival. The Q&A with Jonás Trueba will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 PM at the Cinémathèque, and the one with Carmen Maura on Friday, October 9 at 7:30 PM at Pathé Wilson.
Sections and Events
The program includes fiction and documentary competitions, premieres and previews, a youth screening, the Relámpagos short film selection, the Miradas selection, heritage films, and the year's new releases. The "Subversive Pleasures" cycle, co-produced with the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, focuses on cinema from the Spanish Democratic Transition. The "Llibrets de festes" exhibition (photographs by Cristina de Middel, Cristina García Rodero, and Lúa Ribeira) will be on display at the Instituto Cervantes from September 30, 2026 to January 29, 2027. Additionally, there will be literary meetings, a study day on Barcelona (1888-1929), and professional meetings on Tuesday, October 6.
The Village
The festival village is located in the courtyard of the Cinémathèque, 69 rue du Taur: public reception, pass sales, café, bar, and tapas from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and happy hour concerts from October 2 to 10.

Most Toulouse venues are accessible on foot from the Capitole or Jean Jaurès metro stations. Toulouse-Matabiau train station is about a 20-minute walk away. An "Occitanie Rail Tour Pass" scheme allows for discounts on regional journeys related to the festival.

Cinespaña, a showcase for Iberian cinema in Toulouse
Since 1996, the Cinespaña festival has been the major Toulouse event dedicated to Spanish and Portuguese cinema. Organized annually in October by the AFICH association (Association du Festival International du Cinéma Hispanique), it has established itself as one of the main platforms in France for the promotion of contemporary Iberian cinematographic creation.
A comprehensive panorama of Iberian cinema
For about ten days, the festival presents dozens of films divided into several sections: official feature film competition, documentary competition, short films, animation, panorama of the year's best productions, thematic cycles, and retrospectives. Cinespaña is also a meeting place: film crews, actors, directors, and producers come to Toulouse to meet the public during screenings followed by debates, masterclasses, round tables, and literary encounters.
A festival rooted in the city and the region
While Toulouse is the heart of the festival, screenings radiate throughout October in many partner venues across Occitania. In Toulouse, screenings take place in several emblematic independent and institutional cinemas: Cinéma ABC, Pathé Wilson, American Cosmograph, ENSAV (École nationale supérieure d'audiovisuel), Cinémathèque de Toulouse, Le Cratère, La Forêt électrique, Médiathèque José Cabanis, Instituto Cervantes. The festival's "village," located in the courtyard of ENSAV/Crous (56-58 rue du Taur), serves as a friendly gathering point for festival-goers.
Over thirty years of existence
In 2025, Cinespaña celebrated its 30th edition. The 2026 edition will therefore mark the festival's 31st year, which has continuously grown in strength and annually honors prominent figures in Hispanic cinema with the "Violette d'Honneur." The festival works closely with the Instituto Cervantes de Toulouse, the Crous Toulouse-Occitanie, the Mairie de Toulouse, and numerous institutional and cultural partners.
