The wine festival of Pfaffenheim in the heart of the Grand Cru Steinert terroir
Organized since 1987 by the ACFP (Association Culture et Fêtes Pfaffenheim), the Pfaffenheim Wine Festival brings together Alsace wine lovers every July around the Grand Cru Steinert terroir. Two festive evenings offer tastings of wines from the village winemakers, Alsatian specialties such as Fleischnacka, choucroute Knepfla and tarte flambée, entertainment for the whole family, original bottle opening and barrel carrier races, orchestras and a fireworks display.
Since 1987, the village of Pfaffenheim has celebrated its winemakers and terroirs every summer during the Wine Festival, which has become an unmissable event in the Alsatian festive calendar over the decades. Organized by the ACFP (Association Culture et Fêtes Pfaffenheim), this event is an opportunity to showcase the wine heritage of a village that is home to the prestigious Grand Cru Steinert, a terroir of excellence renowned for its exceptionally elegant Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris.
The Wine Festival takes place over two evenings, Friday and Saturday, near the multi-purpose hall and the stadium, rue du Stade. On Friday, festivities begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 2 a.m. On Saturday, opening is brought forward to 6:30 p.m., also ending at 2 a.m. Two evenings during which orchestras and musical entertainment draw visitors into a festive and dancing atmosphere.
Pfaffenheim winemakers offer their wines for tasting: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and the Grand Cru Steinert vintages. Since 2025, a Crémant bar offers refreshing cocktails and white and rosé Crémants from the village winemakers. On the gastronomy side, volunteers prepare Alsatian specialties: Fleischnacka (meat rolls) served with green salad, choucroute Knepfla, pâté en croûte, tarte flambée, grilled meats, and fries.
The Pfaffenheim Wine Festival is distinguished by its original competitions which contribute to the good-natured atmosphere of the event. The bottle opening competition tests participants' skill, while the barrel carrier race tests their endurance and balance. Raffles, children's entertainment, and shows complete the program. The highlight of the festival is the fire juggling show by the Wulkan company, followed by a fireworks display around 11 p.m.
Pfaffenheim is a wine village located south of Colmar, on the Alsace Wine Route, at the foot of the Schauenberg hill and its famous pilgrimage site. The village, whose name evokes the canons (Pfaffen) who owned vineyards there, is renowned for the quality of its wines and the diversity of its terroirs. The Grand Cru Steinert, with its limestone soils, produces wines of remarkable minerality. The Wine Festival is an opportunity to discover this oenological richness in a friendly and authentically Alsatian atmosphere.
The 39th edition of the Pfaffenheim Wine Festival will be held on July 10 and 11, 2026. Tastings of village wines and Grand Cru Steinert, Crémant bar, Alsatian gastronomy, orchestras, original competitions, and fireworks display are on the program for two festive evenings.
