Musical eclecticism in the heart of the Roannais region since 1989
Since its creation in 1989, the Printemps Musical en Pays Roannais has established itself as one of the essential cultural events in the Loire department. Born during the centenary of the Saint-André-d'Apchon orchestra Les Enfants de la Côte, the festival has retained its original mission: to provide broad local access to a program that emphasizes both the quality of the artists and the diversity of the ensembles.
The range of performances offered resolutely embraces eclecticism across all styles: French chanson, world music ensembles, jazz groups, classical orchestras, salsa bands, brass ensembles, wind quintets, gospel choirs, and various other choral groups. Over the years, the festival has hosted nationally and internationally renowned artists, including Gauthier Capuçon, Renaud Capuçon, Louis Chedid, Camille et Julie Berthollet, Vincent Delerm, as well as prestigious symphonic ensembles like the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Orchestra.
The Printemps Musical unfolds across several communes in the Roannais region. Concerts are held in emblematic venues: the church of Saint-André-d'Apchon for intimate candlelit concerts, the hall of Saint-André-d'Apchon for the traditional closing concert by Les Enfants de la Côte, the Roanne Municipal Theatre, Le Scarabée in Riorges for large ensembles, and La Parenthèse in Renaison. This itinerant approach enhances the festival experience by combining musical discovery with local heritage.
The Printemps Musical operates thanks to the dedication of about fifty passionate volunteers, united within the musical society "Les Enfants de la Côte". Each year, a committee designs the program in consultation with audience expectations and partners. The festival benefits from the support of private and public partners and offers a "Friends of the Festival" circle for patrons wishing to contribute to the event's sustainability.
The Printemps Musical en Pays Roannais returns for its 37th edition, from April 18 to June 25, 2026, with a program that promises to enchant music lovers from Roannais and beyond. This edition is set to be one of the most ambitious in the festival's history, featuring 6 concerts spread across the communes of Roanne, Riorges, Renaison, and Saint-André-d'Apchon.
The edition opens on April 18 at the Roanne Municipal Theatre with Vincent Delerm presenting his show La Fresque, an original creation blending music, text, and images in a poetic journey through time and emotions.
Another major highlight: on May 23, violinist Renaud Capuçon returns to Le Scarabée in Riorges leading the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra (approx. 40 musicians) for an exceptional program including the Violin Concerto by Schumann and Symphony No. 7 by Beethoven. Renaud Capuçon has been the artistic director of this orchestra since autumn 2021.
The full program for the 37th edition, including all artists and venues, will be unveiled progressively on the festival's official website.
The festival takes place in several locations in the Roannais region, in the Loire department (42), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The festival headquarters is located in Saint-André-d'Apchon, about 10 km northwest of Roanne.
