Puy de Dôme en Scène: Live Performance at the Summit

Every summer, the summit of the Puy de Dôme transforms into a unique open-air stage. At an altitude of 1,465 meters, in the heart of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Puy de Dôme en Scène festival — also known as the Nocturnes du Puy de Dôme — offers evenings of live performances blending theater, contemporary circus, dance, pyrotechnics, magic, and music.

An Exceptional Natural Setting

The Puy de Dôme, a 'Grand Site de France' and symbol of Auvergne, offers a 360-degree panorama of the Chaîne des Puys, the Limagne plain, and the Forez mountains. Festival-goers reach the summit via the Panoramique des Dômes, a rack railway that climbs the volcano's slopes in 15 minutes. Trains run every 20 minutes until the end of the shows, allowing spectators to fully enjoy the evening.

A Program for All Audiences

The festival evenings begin in the late afternoon with several successive shows suitable for all ages, from the youngest to the oldest. The program showcases a diversity of artistic forms: circus companies, theater troupes, dancers, musicians, and pyrotechnic artists perform one after another on the volcano's summit.

The highlight of each evening is the sound and light show 'Entre Ciel et Terre', a magical creation that illuminates the summit of the Puy de Dôme and offers spectators a moment of pure magic against the backdrop of the Auvergne volcanoes at sunset. Since 2023, the show 'Volcanistoria, l'Épopée des Volcans et des Dieux' immerses spectators in the region's volcanic history, blending mythological legends and scientific advancements.

An Award-Winning and Recognized Event

The quality of the programming and the originality of the concept have earned the festival the Trophée d'Or de l'Événementiel (Golden Event Award) in Lyon in 2023 and Paris in 2024, thus recognizing the excellence of this one-of-a-kind event. Organized by the Panoramique des Dômes in partnership with the Kube agency, the festival has become a must-attend summer event in Auvergne.

Practical Information

Access to the summit is exclusively via the Panoramique des Dômes rack railway (reservations recommended) or via hiking trails (sturdy shoes and a headlamp for the return trip are required). Food and drink are available on site. It is strongly advised to bring warm clothing, as temperatures at the summit can be significantly cooler than in the plains, even in summer.
