Hip-hop culture festival in Val-de-Marne
Val-de-Marne has a special connection with hip-hop culture. From the 1980s onwards, the housing estates and streets of the department saw the emergence of dancers, rappers, graffiti artists, and DJs who would help define the face of French hip-hop. It is within this living heritage that the Rendez-vous Hip-Hop du Val-de-Marne festival is set, celebrating all the pillars of hip-hop culture: rap, breakdance and urban dances, graffiti and visual arts, DJing and music production, beatbox.
The festival is held annually in spring or early summer, taking over venues, public spaces, and cultural facilities in the department. Its touring format allows it to reach different audiences in various towns, from town centers to the working-class neighborhoods where this culture was born.
The programming of Rendez-vous Hip-Hop is built around the four fundamental pillars of hip-hop culture, treated with equal attention:
Rap concerts are the most visible highlight of the festival. The programming strives to mix nationally recognized artists with local and regional talents, showcasing the diversity and vitality of Parisian rap. Evenings of conscious and engaged rap sit alongside more festive performances, reflecting the multiplicity of French rap currents.
Breakdance and style battles (locking, popping, krump, house dance, voguing) bring together crews and solo dancers from all over the Île-de-France region. Elimination format battles create an electric and festive atmosphere. Showcases by professional hip-hop dance companies offer a more choreographed and elaborate vision of what urban dances can become in the hands of demanding creators.
Live graffiti sessions by graffiti artists and urban artists allow the public to discover this artistic gesture live. Photo and drawing exhibitions present the history and evolution of graffiti in France and worldwide. Workshops allow novices to learn the techniques of tagging, graffiti, and aerosol painting in a supportive and legal environment.
Rendez-vous Hip-Hop places great importance on transmission and artistic education. Workshops led by professional artists are offered to schoolchildren and the general public: rap classes, lyric writing workshops, introductions to dance, music production, and beatbox. These workshops contribute to the promotion of often self-taught cultural practices and allow young people from the area to train with professionals from the scene.
The Rendez-vous Hip-Hop du Val-de-Marne is deeply rooted in the social and cultural reality of the department. It collaborates with local associations active in integration and prevention through culture, and strives to reach audiences who do not necessarily frequent traditional cultural structures. Its affordable pricing—concerts often at reduced or free prices—is an essential dimension of its mission.
The 2026 edition of the Rendez-vous Hip-Hop du Val-de-Marne will take place from Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, over nine days, with Créteil as its epicenter and an itinerant deployment across the municipalities of the department (94). On the program: rap concerts, urban dance battles (breaking, popping, krump, voguing, house dance), live graffiti frescoes, and transmission workshops (writing, beatbox, DJing, graffiti). Detailed program to be published in spring 2026 on the Department's website.
From Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Rendez-vous Hip-Hop returns to bring the Val-de-Marne to life for a new nine-day edition. With Créteil as its epicenter, the festival itinerantly spreads across several municipalities of the department: cultural venues, MJCs, public spaces, and municipal halls successively host concerts, battles, workshops, and live frescoes.
As every year, the 2026 edition celebrates all disciplines of hip-hop culture:
True to its DNA, the festival asserts a popular vocation: workshops and battles remain largely free to make culture accessible to the greatest number, and preferential rates are provided for young people and residents of Val-de-Marne. Paid concerts remain within an accessible range (up to 20 €).
Ticketing for the 2026 edition will open in spring 2026 on valdemarne.fr. The detailed day-by-day program (artists, schedules, stages) will be unveiled at the same period.
The festival generally takes place in spring (May-June). Consult the annual program for precise dates.
The festival is itinerant and takes place in several towns in Val-de-Marne. Venues vary depending on the edition.
Val-de-Marne is served by the metro, RER, and bus lines of the Île-de-France Mobilités network.
