The Autumn Festivals of Villeneuve-le-Roi: Sixty Years of Popular Tradition

Villeneuve-le-Roi is a commune in Val-de-Marne with approximately 20,000 inhabitants, bordered by the Seine and possessing a strong local identity. Its Autumn Festivals, organized by the City since 1964 (61st edition in 2025), constitute the most emblematic and anticipated festive event on the municipal calendar. Every late September, they bring together the residents of Villeneuve around associative life, local crafts, popular gastronomy, and spectacular entertainment.

The longevity of this event testifies to its deep roots in local culture. The Autumn Festivals are much more than a municipal event: they are a rite of passage from summer to autumn, an eagerly awaited moment of reunion, with a renewed program and a different theme each year (the sea in 2025) that colors the decorations and entertainment.

A Weekend of Festivities Throughout the City

The Autumn Festivals take place on Saturday and Sunday in late September, from 10 am to 6 pm, in the city center of Villeneuve-le-Roi. Saturday morning opens the day for exhibitors: associations, municipal services, artisans, and shopkeepers present their activities to the public. The city's sports clubs take advantage of the event to finalize early-season registrations, with demonstrations and initiations (football, tennis, swimming, martial arts, dance, and many other disciplines).

From noon, numerous food stalls offer their specialties: pizzas, sandwiches, crepes, burgers, and other gourmet preparations. In parallel, a flea market sets up on rue du Maréchal Joffre, while artisanal exhibitors unveil their creations — jewelry, decorations, handmade clothing, works of art, and regional products — in a creative market atmosphere.

Cavalcade, Sound and Light, and Fireworks

In the afternoon, associations perform on the stage of jardin Arpino with demonstrations open to all. In the evening, Saturday concludes with a grand sound and light show followed by fireworks on place du Kiosque, one of the most anticipated highlights of the weekend. On Sunday, the Autumn Festivals end in apotheosis with the grand cavalcade, a parade of floats and costumed groups that crosses the city and brings together young and old along the route.

Between the funfair, thematic entertainment, flea market, associative demonstrations, and parade, the Autumn Festivals offer a complete weekend of free and family-friendly entertainment that perpetuates, year after year, the festive and supportive spirit of Villeneuve-le-Roi.
