Science and curiosity for everyone in Val-de-Marne
Every October, Val-de-Marne participates in the Fête de la Science, a national event created in 1991 to promote scientific culture to the general public. The department, rich in higher education institutions, research laboratories, and cultural facilities, offers a particularly conducive setting for this event which seeks to bring the world of science closer to everyday life.
Val-de-Marne hosts numerous scientific and university institutions that actively participate in the Fête de la Science:
The Fête de la Science in Val-de-Marne offers a dense and varied program:
The Fête de la Science in Val-de-Marne is resolutely focused on inclusivity. Formats adapted for very young children (from 3 years old), schoolchildren, and adults of all levels allow everyone to participate according to their desires and skills. Translations and specific mediation are offered for non-French-speaking audiences, who are very present in this multicultural department.
Each edition of the Fête de la Science is placed under a national theme that guides the proposals of scientific and cultural actors. In Val-de-Marne, this theme is adapted through the prism of local realities: urban environment, health, digital technology, and social innovation are particularly developed angles linked to the specificities of the departmental territory.
The Fête de la Science 2026 in Val-de-Marne takes place from October 2 to 12, 2026, as part of the 36th national edition, themed "Savory Flavors" (science, cooking, taste, and food). Science villages, workshops, conferences, and laboratory visits are offered free of charge throughout the department. The detailed program by site will be published at the start of the academic year on fetedelascience.fr.
