Rock the Pistes: The Pioneer of High-Altitude Festivals
Since 2011, Rock the Pistes has been reinventing the music festival experience by setting up its stages directly on the ski slopes of Les Portes du Soleil, Europe's largest cross-border ski area with 650 km of slopes, 200 ski lifts, and 11 snowparks between France and Switzerland. This unique concept in Europe makes the festival an unparalleled event: festival-goers ski in the morning and attend open-air concerts in the afternoon, at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, with the Alpine peaks as a backdrop.
Twelve Resorts, One Festival
Rock the Pistes spans twelve Franco-Swiss resorts: Abondance, Avoriaz 1800, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morgins, Morzine, Saint-Jean d'Aulps, Torgon, and Val-d'Illiez. This cross-border dimension gives the festival exceptional scope and a diversity of atmospheres, with each village contributing its local touch to the festivities.
A Unique Format: Slopes by Day, Villages by Night
The festival is structured around two daily highlights. During the day, five major concerts on the slopes are accessible to holders of a ski pass, with stages set up at strategic points on the ski area. In the evening, over thirty free après-ski concerts liven up the village centers, open to everyone without conditions. This duality between high-altitude concerts and village evenings is what makes Rock the Pistes so unique.
Renowned Artists Against the Peaks
Over the years, Rock the Pistes has hosted top-tier artists: Chinese Man, Shaka Ponk, Caravan Palace, Skip the Use, Cali, Kesiah Jones, Babyshambles, and many others have performed against the snowy backdrops of the Alps. The programming mixes rock, pop, electro, reggae, and world music, in a festive and accessible spirit.
The 2026 Edition: Superbus and Boulevard des Airs Headline
The 14th edition will take place from March 15 to 21, 2026, with a lineup that promises to electrify the slopes: Superbus will kick things off at Le Pléney in Morzine, Boulevard des Airs and Stéphane will take over La Plaine Dranse in Châtel, while Trinix and Nèg' Marrons will ignite the summit of the Morgins cable car. The Off the Pistes program will complete the lineup with dozens of free concerts in the resorts.
